update-January 28 ,2110
Good morning everyone. I needed to update yesterday but we were just exausted after a day at CMC in Charlotte. The heart echo came first at 10:00 am. Then down to the CT scans. He was unable to have the contrast because his creatine was too high. Therefore the scans were not as clear. Our doctor took us to the scans and compared to when we first began Sutent. He has had some growth since it began in his kidney and his lung. Millimeters. I asked him once what was a millimeter was. He put a dot down with an ink pen and told me that was a millimeter. It take 12 of those dots to make a centimeter. (I guess you all know that) but after 3 years of Sutent he still considered Steve to be stable. It really brings it home when they show you were it is and where it used to be. He told us he was going to present Steve's case for discussion at the next meeting. We are so grateful to be just STABLE. Most of the mets are still there, just not growing. You CAN live with kidney cancer. He is living proof of it. When I told Steve I was writing this about him his concern was for those who are not doing so well. Why does it work for some and not for others? Only the good Lord above can answer that. I pray at night for all of you, patients and caregivers. What does tomorrow hold for us, we don't know. I just know when it comes I will do the very best I can for him as he will for me. PS He told Steve to avoid caffinated drinks-tea, coffee, sodas because it was too hard on the kidney. So the tea he loves will have to be modified.( Everything in moderation) Love, Wanda
