Update
I am back home now and missing Cevyn and the girls already.
I more or less got over my cold or whatever it was! I still have an intermittent dry cough. I had a chat with my doctor yesterday. She asked if I had seen a physician - I hadn't. She said that I should have called her. I will remember that next time - maybe! I am okay otherwise but having bloodwork done to make sure!
Update re my sick friends: Lynda, my nursing classmate is healing after her 12 hour surgery. She is a bit of a miracle. She is up walking but still short of breath and speaks very softly.
My dear friend Jack is still in the hospital. Did I mention him? He had a really bad fall and was unconscious for awhile. He hurt his back and is in a lot of pain, is only able to stand with help, is confused at times, and is refusing to eat. He refuses to have company so I have not been able to visit. His partner (they have been engaged for about 36 years) has dinner with us or our neighbour every night as she stays at the hospital all day, every day. We are thankful that she is allowing us to help.
Yesterday they decided to try to insert a nasogastric tube as Jack won't eat. They gave up on the 3rd try. Personally, I hate NG tubes having inserted many and failing at inserting one on myself. I told Les that he might yank it out. I have strong feelings but unless she asks me directly, I am not offering my advice - biting my tongue. Knowing Jack, I suspect he is not happy.
While in Ottawa, I met Cevyn's boyfriend. Jon is a sweet guy who adores her. Unfortunately, both he and Cevyn have had trauma in their past and are not particularly good at conflict management! She broke up with him just before I left. They are now sorting things out. He loves the girls and missed them (during the week he was not around). Yesterday they went to the Calypso Water Park and had a blast. I guess both Cevyn and Jon got sunburned. They were more concerned for the twins than themselves. I hope they work it out.
The interesting thing about Jon is he is open and honest with feelings. He has been seeing a counsellor. We had several chats when I was there. I think I know more about my granddaughter's boyfriend than any self respecting Granny! He told Cevyn that he is going to miss me.
Lena, our Ukrainian house guest is still with us. We are delighted to have her. She is strugging with English but is very hesitant to ask for help from us. She keeps telling us that she is grateful to have us and doesn't want to bother us. We keep telling her that she is family while she is here.
Lena is very worried about her son and family back home. The bomb at the train station was not far from her home. She talks with her friend by phone and could hear the air raid sirens in the background. We have no idea how lucky we are. The sad thing is that the war has fractured families. She has family in Russia who believe Putin and accuse her of exaggerating!
That is it for now.

I am happy to hear Lynda came through the surgery OK and is recovering. I'm sure this will be a long process; I send my prayers. And I'm so sorry about your friend Jack and hope everything works out for his best. So hard...
OH how I wish, hope and pray for Ceyvn and the girls to be happy and have all their dreams come true. I know it doesn't take a man to do that, but a true life partner is surely a blessing! I hope Jon is her guy, but if not, I hope her path crosses with the most perfect match for her and the girls. Love is grand! Having a life partner to share it ALL, with total trust and respect and honesty....priceless!
What a horrid situation for Lena. My heart breaks for her...for all who are living this nightmare of war. What a shame that while some of her family fear and fight for their lives, others are blind to the reality and can't find the compassion to offer her any comfort or support. Thankful she has you and Joe!!!
Thanks again for sharing!
