Update @14weeks
Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing well, I am trying to keep up to date with everyone as best I can and definitely still cheering you all on!!
I had a midwife appointment today and all was well, she used her Doppler to listen to the heartbeat and said she found it easily, its actually the first time ive heard it since the ultrasounds all seem to be sound off! So it was a lovely thing to hear. She told me I was boring!! Which I was extremely happy to hear!
I have never been called boring in a medical sense before, what with all the IF stuff and having Lupus plus an added complication of my Dad having a very rare genetic disorder called MEN which means basically he grows tumours on his endocrine glands (resulting in numerous various other complications) I had never been tested but at the start of my IVF journey I thought I may as well look into PGD. I ended up deciding against due to the delay and risks it added to the IVF process and the fact that they informed me that should they detect the fault in an embryo they would only discard it, not (as I requested) just note it and save those embryos for last. I would NEVER discard an embryo and was happy to take the risk, in this scenario the baby can only inherit the (dominant) mutation if I too have inherited it. Who am I to decide a baby like me didn't deserve to live. I would have been risking it had I conceived naturally and only considered PGD since I was already going through IVF and I thought it may be advantageous.
Anyway instead I had myself tested so I would know if it was something I even had to worry about but went ahead with IVF while I waited for the testing to go ahead (as we needed my dads genetic info from the UK before I could be tested, which took ages!!!)
Today the genetic councillor called me.....I have not inherited MEN!!! My baby is safe from this and so am I!!! I am so pleased!!! And mostly pleased for my dad, I know its a huge burden he has carried since I was born, he would have felt terrible if I had inherited it!!!
So my only concern now is Lupus in this pregnancy. and the midwife did worry me a bit, she said my blood pressure is up a bit, borderline high which is a little bit of a concern since lupus is known for high blood pressure in pregnancy, she said its too early for the pregnancy to be causing it which means its caused by the lupus. Obviously I have googled it and that's scary so I'm trying to hang off the fact the midwife said its nothing to worry about just yet!
I have nothing to build up to now though except the next midwife appointment in 4 weeks and feeling baby move some time around there too, then its another 2 weeks til the next scan! I an Ob appt and physician for the Lupus but not til week 22 which midwife says means they're not worried but means I will until I see them since it fels like a lot of room for something to go wrong??
Still feeling ridiculously blessed and surprisingly good, not moody or emotional, not sick or tired, just blessed......and a little bit constipated hhahah
Love you all

Beautiful update :) So happy for you and the beautiful heartbeat :) and your baby and you both being safe from that genetic disorder. Blessed news.
So happy to hear this update Nedico! 14 weeks is awesome! How nice you don\'t get sick or tired! Congrats on not having MEN! Sorry for all the exclamation points. I am just so excited for you. :-) as a side note my cousin\'s wife who has Lupus is pregnant and is 14 weeks just like you!
Glad things are going well and for you not having MEN! I bet that is a huge relief for your family. I can\'t believe they wait so long in between our scans!! If it wasn\'t for a family member to sneak me in at 14 weeks, I would have had to wait 10 weeks between scans. Luckily, I only have 4 weeks to go. Yay for 14 weeks!
I\'m glad you are feeling better and less stressed with your pregnancy friend. so, in your case \'boring\' is a good thing then:0) Thats great news! I hope your blood pressure stays under control for you. Keep us posted and take care of yourself. *HUG!!
Great news!! A boring pregnancy is a wonderful pregnancy :)
