Up Till Now
I'm making slow cooker chili. A simple task, but one not quite thought out. I almost bought two pounds of beef and there's only me. I had to adjust the recipie. Now, my problem is that there's no one to turn the chili off. I have a choice: eat the minute I come in from work, or wait two hours later. I'll definetly need a slow cooker with a timer on it.
All the things to consider when cooking for one. It's hard to get used to.
I'm picturing myself cooking for one the rest of my life. I can't picture myself finding someone as great as DH, so I realize I've got to get used to it.
Today, I was thinking about DH and what he would have wanted for his daughter. I want to make sure he would be pleased about some things he was concerned about. Life is indeed strange. DH doesn't really care now. And that's a strange thought.
I know some people believe their loved ones are looking down on them, but I've never been one to believe that. No, I believe that once you're gone, you're way too busy being with God and talking to old relatives and friends for that. I think their's something in the bible about that too, but I'm not sure.
Anyhow, today, I'm not feeling good or bad. Do they have one of those faces for numb?

I really understand the that it is hard to get used to cooking for one, and that I might be doing this for another 20 or 30 years. I\'m finding the cooking for one thing a challenge. Tom and I always cooked together and we cooked massive batches of stuff to freeze or give away or barter. I bought a few smaller pots and pans and some one-person cookbooks to try to find inspiration. Cooking what I used to cook is just a bit too sad right now because he isn\'t here. So I\'m exploring new recipes or new ways of doing things and that is helping. It is just too easy to skip meals or eat junk or drink so I\'ve got to work on the cooking thing too. Hugs!

Chili sounds good. You could always get one of those timers that plug in the wall and then plug your appliance into that. That\'s how my current coffee maker is so it\'s done when I get up. You might want to consider buying some freezer containers for leftovers. Then you\'ll have a ready made meal another time. I think the numb face should just have a set of eyes. Hugs, Judy
For me it\'s missing his cooking. I never knew what I was hungry for until I smelled something cooking. lol Actually did start cooking in caring for him the last few years so have missed that for awhile. Freezer idea is good. I\'m with you on the loved ones being too busy with the Lord and family friends to even be concerned about us. \"Absent from the body. Present with the Lord.\" but tend to think that they do show up now and then as the Lord knows we need the comfort and to feel the love...
I also think my sweet husband is far too busy worshipping Jesus to be worrying about what I am doing. He knows I will join him when it is time and I think that Heaven is a place without time anyway, so I will be with him before he knows it. Besides that I would be ashamed to have him see some of my stupid mistakes.
As for the cooking for one thing, I can so very much relate, but I have found a \"sometimes solution.\" Surely we all know either an elderly person or a widow/widower or even a single person who we could share a meal with. Either take it to them and eat with them, or just package it up for them to eat later when they are hungry.
The first year after my husband died I did this often for my single brother-in-law (he lives just up the road). It was nice to have someone to eat with and he appreciated my cooking. Besides which, it was an easy way to sort of repay him for his help when I need him to pull me out of a ditch or help start the lawn mower in the spring, etc. I have not done it so much this past year and a half, unless I have roasted chicken (like my husband, he likes the dark meat, while I only like the white meat so...) then I will often take him half of it, after I have gotten \"the good part\" of course. But Ihave other single friends I sometimes share food with.
