Up In Arms About Indoor Playground?
If you live in an area such as we do in Western New York (we are in Rochester!) With beautifully hot summers and cold snowy winters, you'll know that your choices for your kid's birthday party are mostly determined by the weather.
As an August baby, we always had little family parties out at my residence. But, together with sons born in November and March, we're constantly left to reserve an indoor venue for their parties, if we chose to have them that year. While those with kids with summer birthdays might appear blessed to have numerous choices at their disposal, it may also often feel overwhelming.
While in Climbing Vines Cafe and Play we may be biased since we host indoor parties, I wanted to share with you the 5 most common reasons we hear out of previous celebration customers to book indoor summer birthdays with us. To these, the stress-free temperament of the indoor summer party is a no-brainer, plus they are not looking back! Following their first indoor summer celebration they continue hosting with us year after year.
1) NO WEATHER WORRIES
The most common reason for a customer to book a summer indoor celebration with us is so they do not have to stem the weather forecast for updates in the weeks leading up to the party. And if you've ever needed to cancel or postpone your child's birthday because of weather, you realize how heartbreaking that could be.
We receive dozens of calls each summer a few days before someone's outdoor party is supposed to take place to find out if we've got an open slot for them in our indoor celebration place because of weather woes. We can usually pull off this if the place remains open, but hosts will sadly have to scramble and allow all of their guests are aware of the change in place and likely shift in time, and also change all their catering requests to accommodate their new party plan.
While of course rain is probably the biggest obstacle you may face, intense heat, unseasonably cool weather, and wind can also pose problems to your food, decorations, along with your guests' belongings. You will likely find yourself investing in a kayak or some other weather barrier simply to ease your mind a bit, which are costly and require lots of precious time to set up and take down. I will not even tell the narrative of this time my Dad set a tent up for a celebration in a windstorm and ended up with an insurance coverage for 4 damaged cars when it withdrew (weights and anchors and all!) ...
2) CHANGING IT UP
Aside from the obvious weather worries it's possible to avoid with a indoor celebration, there can also just be something really simple and lovely about an indoor summer celebration. Guests will not need to be worried about bringing sunscreen and towels and sunglasses and swimsuits and changes of clothing and insect spray... you get the picture.
Sometimes it's wonderful to have a short break in the outside, sip coffee in an air-conditioned cafe, also have a real conversation with other adults while the children play, instead of chasing children around trying to receive their fur on them or keeping them away from the in-ground pool. I am not sure about you, but I can never really relax at an outdoor summer birthday party with a 2 and a 4 year-old. While they sure do have a good time running around, we usually leave at a daze or with a tantrum, unsure whether we even had the time to chat or check in with everybody.
While I absolutely love a fantastic barbecue or summer grilling extravaganza, I find it so refreshing when we could take a break from the same-old backyard celebration and spend a couple of hours at a relaxing, cool, and most significantly -- included! -- atmosphere.
It is also freeing as a guest to have the remainder of the day to do as we want as a family and not have to be concerned about getting the kids to a bath immediately after the celebration or stopping home to cool off and change clothing.
I guarantee that in the event you reserve an indoor celebration for your son or daughter, guests (particularly family) might seem a little confused at first (why not take advantage of the summer weather while we could, right?) But after hosting countless indoor parties I can tell you for sure that on the day-of, you and your visitors will realize how nice it is to reunite within an air-conditioned private party for a couple hours.
3) EATING IN PEACE
Speaking of how relaxing an indoor, air-conditioned celebration can be, how can we discuss food for a second? Not only are food options limited with an outside party because of heat, but it can be hard to keep food covered and retain the bugs, www.jykids.net bees, and other debris away.
At the moment, my sweet 4 year-old boy is terrified of bees, and also the quickest way to send him into a tailspin is for him to sit down to eat a cupcake or his meal and also have bees swarming around. Therefore, for our family, the food factor alone could be sufficient to justify an indoor celebration.
Eating in peace without having to find colour or a seat or a location away from bugs is one of these things that you do not realize can be so glorious until you attend your fourth or fourth outside summer gathering and THEN get a break from them. One of the most common things we hear is how nice it's to just sit and eat and watch the kiddos play with no any other venue-related cares or worries. This will be particularly important if you are going to be needing elderly family members attend who can battle with being mobile in the sand or marijuana and finding seating at outside parties.
While celebration aesthetic may not be a determining factor for every household, it sure is significantly simpler to make a themed extravaganza which lighting a youngster's face up as soon as the party's inside. The decorations demanded tend to be less since the place is smaller and included contained, and you won't need to worry about balloons and streamers blowing all about or procuring table covers .
Since we do host cellular events outdoors in Climbing Vines Cafe and Play, I will also speak from experience when I say the time that it takes to install (and take down!) Decorations for an outside celebration compared to a indoor celebration generally ends up being at least double. Finding good places to hang banners, requiring two people to hold and secure everything, and finding weights or other restraints for everything may be a true hassle on party day.
And you'll have enough to be concerned about this day, right?
Furthermore, if your own pinterest planks are full of cute centerpieces, a candy bar, or anything which could possibly be affected by wind (or bring bees!) You will probably have to restrategize to get an outdoor soiree.
Not to mention decoration typically can only get used once if used outside, but repurposed again and again if used for an indoor event. Our guests who sponsor indoor occasions, especially those who spent significant money into decoration or labored hard to make their own, are very happy to find they could usually make a large chunk of their money back by reselling their materials on something such as Facebook Marketplace.
Speaking of cash, probably the biggest misconception I hear from customers is that they wish to host a party in their home to save the rental fee of an indoor area. I usually laugh at this because it makes great sense, that is, if you've never hosted an outside celebration.
With all the"extras" like tents, chair rentals, additional decorations, weather reinforcements, cleanup supplies, games and activities for the children (that you won't need to supply at a play area!) , pool toys, etc.... It's very possible you will wind up spending MUCH more hosting a celebration at your home or an outdoor place than you would indoors.
I am not sure how other indoor spaces manage their equipment, but we only charge guests to get extra drinks and supplies and these on the afternoon of the party should they wind up needing them, and we also enable parties to attract in their OWN food, dessert, and decor if they choose!
Money aside, spending countless hours cleaning prior to, during, and following the celebration can also have a toll. Would not it be nice to walk into a sparkling clean area and depart with your guests when the party's over, not needing to worry about the cleanup, trash removal, tent teardown, etc?
You can just head home and relax with your family (yes, possibly outside!) In a nice clean home that wasn't just trampled by party guests and all of their sand, grass, and sunscreen.
In addition to the time spent cleaning prior to and after the celebration, wouldn't it ALSO be nice to not need to play"host" during the event? Even for clients that make their own food and decoration, our committed celebration assistants set up everything, refill and mend food and drinks as necessary, clear dishes, cut and serve the cake, and pack up all of the leftovers at the end of the celebration!
After all, it is your child's special day and you wish to spend those precious hours making memories and visiting along with your guests-- not running around chasing your decorations or refilling the fruit bowl innumerable times.
So save everyone (and especially your family!) We would be honored to provide you with an easy, enjoyable experience which will leave your entire guest list feeling joyful, grateful, and filled with love after having a relaxing (yet fun-filled!) day together.
