Untrustworthy Siblings

Monday, October 20, 2008 – 9:10 A.M. Before going to bed last night, I had an opportunity to talk to my brother by phone. He said he had tried calling me the day before, just to see how things were going with me.  That sounded like a good explanation, but I doubt if it was true.   We talked somewhat about our family conference we had last Monday.  He said that he had been quite pleased with it and thought it was a very good one.  He added that he would enjoy coming back for a second time.   I told him our sister had been very upset by it.  He wanted to know why, and I told him that she did not like rehashing everything that had gone on in our childhoods.  He told me that after the conference, the two of them had gone to lunch together, and that while they ate, she had expressed the same thing to him.   Prior to our family conference, my brother had wanted my sister and me to go to lunch with him afterwards.  My sister had told me that she did not think that would be a good idea, because there might be some hard feelings among all of us.  I agreed to her feelings at the time.  Maybe that is why I now find it strange that the two of them went to lunch after the conference without even asking me if I would like to go with them.  It sounds to me as if there is more there than meets the eye.   My brother asked if I knew when the next family conference would be.  I told him I did not, but that Dale would probably call me and let me know.  I also said that I had already e-mailed Dale, and told him that I had not liked the way the meeting had gone.  My brother wanted to know why I felt that way.    I said that I had not liked the way he and my sister had “conveniently” neglected to remember the agreement we had over the sale of the house.  My brother said that they did not know that I had expected to receive anything from the sale.    He said that if I really felt that way, then I must have forgotten what was said because I had still been under the influence of drugs.  Realizing there was no way that I could convince him otherwise, I decided to keep my mouth shut about this until the next time we met with Dale.   For one reason or another, my brother said he wanted to go over my finances with me.  Although I have nothing to hide, I cannot see any reason for him to do that.  I doubt if he would let me go over his finances with him.   Maybe I should not feel this way, but I have a sneaky suspicion that he and my sister have formed some kind of an alliance against me.  I do not believe that I am just being paranoid about this.  I feel that as long as I do not ask either one of them for financial assistance, they do not have any business asking how much money I either have or do not have.   After going to the birthday party for my sister tomorrow night, I do not have any plans on contacting either my brother or my sister until after I speak with Dale about what has been happening.  While I do not have anything to hide, I do not feel a need to let everyone know my business.

I\'m with you, I have a wonky feeling about this where the money is concerned.

Your sibs need to mind their own business.

And as a sibling, why shouldn\'t you have expected to also receive a portion of the sale of a house you all lived in?

That\'s not only cruel, it\'s DUMB.

But, again, they had emotional issues you couldn\'t be aware of, so they were probably also selectively and self-protectively blind.

I\'m just guessing here. But I bet I\'m close.

Still, they need to make amends somehow.

Hugs and Mojo to you my friend.

Re: Amends...I wouldn\'t count on it, but it\'s a nice thought.

It sure is a nice thought. I don\'t think it\'s that hard to make amends, either. I think they have no clue who you really are. They don\'t see the wonderful brother they have. I say fuck them. I see how awesome you are. I\'d be proud to call you my brother. In fact, we\'d be alliancing against these two dumbasses. They need some help and maybe some not-so-gentle nudging in the right direction.

you deserve your share of the money from the sale of the house. That was very wrong of them to keep that from you. That is something they need to admit, cause I know that must be very frustrating for you for them to act all dumbass about it.

I agree you should discuss them possibly forming an alliance against you with the therapist, I think that will be important, and the therapist will hopefully see it if that is what is going on. I would be paranoid too.

I think Sam has a great idea there! We could make a terrific alliance! Why didn\'t I think of that?
