unsettling
I received a call yesterday from the assistant principal. T is suspended for a day - today. He could have rec'd more days but they lumped his infractions into one. It's not a punishment for him. It only bothers me and his father. The infraction was skipping school so a suspension seems almost silly to me but what else can they do? They have to follow policy. I just wish (now that I'm thinking of it) that they could have put him in in-school suspension and made him work! To me that makes more sense. He's failing anyway and doesn't care anymore. He's too ocuppied with something else, anyway. sigh..... It was decided that my husband will go to the school for the "intervention". I know if I go - he will direct his anger toward me - at least that is what he's done in the past. I really do want to be there, in a way, but maybe this is better. I really don't know what the real goal is here because even if he does admit he's using (which I doubt) what is the plan? My husband isn't ready to start thinking of sending him away. There are two options - at this point. When it's agreed he needs help (although I already know he does) - do we send him to the county treatment center (much like a prison) or do we take out a huge loan and send him to a quality one. Truthfully? I know that there isn't any quarantee and I know of a couple who have spent more than 1/2 of their life savings on treatment centers on their son, without any success, I still think T would have a better shot at a good place. BTW - their son is 30 and FINALLY sobered up in a dirty, ugly, halfway house. It was the living conditions that finally did it, I guess. Every story is different......so I just don't know what to do now..... BTW - Oldest son is now settled in his new place after returning from LA and after the electricity from the storm finally came on. We did receive a call, however, that our poor convertible now has another dent - only this one is HUGE. #1 son got in another accident. He's fine but the window won't go down and it's all dented. I say "another" accident because I few weeks ago, here in town, on his job he was driving one of the city trucks and backed into a parked car. Then the storm caused a tree to fall on our car, whiile he was in CA. His room mates moved the car into the street to remove the debri but never put it back in the drive so the car got a ticket. His friend said he's take care of it. And now the latest accident! Apparently, a car in front of him stopped short, he signals to go around but as he did he had to go into the other lane. He, obviously, didn't see the oncoming car and bang! The woman in the other car, he said, was very dramatic - yelling that she was hurt. She kept calling for an emergency car and finally.....after waiting for quite awhile, my son said that two ambulances and a huge fire truck arrived!!! He said it was so ridiculous. The woman wasn't even treated. Pretty dramatic way for my son to arrive into his new digs. Two of his room mates were with him and were teasing him about all the problems he's caused and he's only been there a short while. They then started blaming him for the storm. I told him that they might as well blame him for global warming while they are at it!

Is your child depressed?
Sometimes tag team parenting works best......I have found it to be a useful strategy.......I agree about the suspension, what kind of consequence is that -- missing more school? Does the PO care? Are there any consequences on that for not being in school? He\'s digging himself into a ditch! If T is not ready to make a change, an enforced regimen might be a start to changing habits and on the outside chance, attitudes. More money does not necessarily mean better qualified or more caring staff....it is a big dilemma!
If the above comment is about son #1, I too had that thought.....glad to know he is ok......and how is son #2? ! Hang in there and take care!!!
