Unsettled
I don't know whether it's just circumstantial or if it's just due to some bad dreams I had last night, but I've been feeling pretty unsettled today.I'll start with my bad dream: I dreamt that DS became so violent & volatile that we had to have him committed! It wasn't one of those dreams where it felt like it was really happening, because it took place in my previous town in a school. So although I knew it wasn't real, the feelings I had during the dream really shook me up!As far as recent circumstances:1 - our church's elders would like one of our newer members to be an elder. On the surface, it seems to make a lot of sense; he's a pretty good worker bee & has led prayer, adult Sunday School, etc. Then they had him get up & speak to the congregation. He spoke about his great relationship with his wife, his mom & how they've been involved in various churches where they've lived for years. He even spoke about great aunt LuLu. The whole time, I'm waiting for him to get around to his personal walk with the Lord. Never happened. I'm not sure if it's because he just wanted us to get to know him & his life better, or if it's because he really isn't saved to begin with. So before next Sunday, I know I have to try to get a hold of him & see if I can get an answer to this burning question. 2 - I'm still concerned about my son, of course. I do want him to "get moving" with his life, which he seems to feel he is doing; but his timetable is WAY different than the rest of the world's. In the meantime, DH is getting less & less patient with him, to the point where he's starting to push him in an intimidating way (bringing to mind the verse about fathers shouldn't provoke their children to wrath). I understand DH's frustration, but I can see where DS might be getting it from--his own father! After all, did he see DH spend the summer applying for & pursuing jobs? Does he see him try to better himself? No...and of course I'm sure DH does not view it this way.3 - So along this vein: we were at our small group on Friday night & DH was talking about DS to some of our friends. Then DH says to me that once he is laid off in December, he wants to pay for DS to have driving lessons (since DS doesn't seem to want to go driving with him). To which I logically say, "if you're laid off, how are we going to pay for driving lessons?" Then he replies angrily & adamantly that we'll find a way/make it happen/etc. So, judging by his tone, I know there is no talking to him. But guess what. I'm not going to let it be my problem. If he wants DS to have these lessons, he's gonna have to pay for them. I can barely make ends meet, paying the bills. And on the other hand, he's "talked big" before & never followed through, so I may have nothing to worry about to begin with.4 - And speaking of Mr. Money Management, he's down to the wire...again. But I'm not going to rescue. Heck, I don't really have the money to rescue even if I want to. I guess what I'm worried about is being blamed for there being no money. Not that I had anything to do with it, but I know how he thinks. (And remembering back to last year when he spent the whole state income tax refund & wondered where the money went.) But I have to say to myself: I can't accept the blame. I won't.5 - And I'm sensing a whole spiritual shift in my life, primarily stemming through Women's Bible Study on Tuesdays. There is a lot of confirmation of what I'm learning through our small group & even this past Sunday's sermon. So all of that is making me wonder why I'm going through this shift; is something big going to happen? How big?
