United Airlines left 10 year old unaccompanied minor in Chicago on her way to camp//a's b-day cake

"Parents Annie and Perry K. were charged an extra $99 by United Airlines, for their "unaccompanied minor" to be escorted throughout her flight from San Francisco, CA to the State of Michigan to attend summer camp.
Perry K. dropped off his daughter Phoebe at San Francisco International Airport on June 30 for her flight as an unaccompanied minor to summer camp in Michigan.   Their daughter, Phoebe was on a United flight that traveled to an Airport in Chicago, Illinois and then a plane switch/transfer to a plane flying to Traverse City, Michigan where the child's summer camp would pick her up and drive her to camp.
The camp officials waited in Michigan, except 10 year old, Phoebe never arrived.  The camp called United Airlines and United Airlines put them on hold for 20 minutes.   A United representative finally took their call, via a connection in "India," and only after some back and forth discussion did they finally find out that Phoebe had never boarded the (connection)plane going from Chicago to Michigan.
That's because when the 10-year-old landed "on-time" in Chicago, the escort company's representive for unaccompanied minors never showed up.   Phoebe asked United attendants in Chicago three times to use a phone to call, but she was told to wait.   "When she missed the flight she asked if someone had called the summer camp who was waiting for her in Michigan, to make sure they knew and the United Airlines representatives told her 'yes—we will take care of it."   No one called.   She was sad and scared and no one helped."
Five hours later, Phoebe did end up making it to Traverse City safely, only after the K's appealed to a United Airlines employee who was the mother of a ten year old as well, to please help.   They were later told by United Airlines that the airline outsourced the "unaccompanied minor services" to a third-party vendor, who "forgot to show up."
A United spokesperson apologized, and the airline is redepositing the miles used to purchase the ticket into Perry K's frequent flier account.   The airline is also refunding the $99 "unaccompanied minor" escort charge."
And how about the damages money for the pain and suffering?  guess not.
We used to have people from outside our regional area attending camp when i was a kid, wonder if they went through this kind of thing?  we had a few from california and utah, several from tennessee, a couple of them from massachusetts and a couple of them from England.  i'm amazed even now, that people travel so far, just to attend summer camp?  though it was like picking straws finding a camp for a four years ago, and slightly better luck this year, only because a lot of the camps were cheaper this year (i would think that means enrollment was down, except they were filling up so quick, every time i checked on line.  so different now, with all things done on internet).
i never knew what a headache enrolling and sending kids to summer camp is, until the passed four years.  js and b didn't go.  they had campground timeshare each weekend with all the amenities that a summer camp offers, except they had it year round, because we had campground timeshare back then, for the first nine years of their lives.  a was the first one to show an interest in overnight camp, which amazed me because our kids were so not into even it.  but by the time a was here, we had ordinary timeshare on the ocean, which doesn't have all the amenities that the campground timeshare has (not even close).  i think the biggest thing  campgrounds or camping offers is an appreciation of nature and hopefully survival skills (WITHOUT electricity everywhere, though campgrounds have hookups for water and electric, lets be honest.  real camping doesn't have that).  i think they have the nature thing a little, but not the survival thing.
drinking coffee with biscotti.  have leftover b-day cake (belated) from a's cake.  have to remember NOT to get chocolate cake from publix.  their white b-day cake is way better.  this one may be better if i put it in the freezer.
someone in our office complex was busted for dealing drugs in town and its become a big deal because he borrowed someone's car and left some in there.  that person called the police and wanted whatever it was removed (hmmm, why didn't they just remove it himself?)
its verrry hot today.  i'm incredibly bored - this bit with going straight home and getting extra rest is driving me crazy.  i'm on the antifungal this week, so extra pills.  also have the cat with the ear infection on meds this week as well.  she is acting out, so i guess she is sick again.

That\'s a really scary story....it could have really ended bad! Thank goodness she got to camp safely.

I attended summer camp but it was alway\'s Gymnastic camp and lot\'s of hard work with some fun thrown in. lol We traveled alot. One year my coaches, one other girl, and myself drove to WA state. We were away for 6 weeks and it was the best trip ever!

The leftover b-day cake sounds good. I wish I had some now.

I hope the weather cools down for you soon and can find something to
relieve the boredom.

Take care!
