Two Types Of Gas Detector
Two Types Of Gas Detector
Combustible Gas Detector is basic safety equipment needed when there’s combustible gas in plant site. Auto ignition temperature as well as LEL or Lower Explosive Limit descries potential risks of the combustible gases.
Auto ignition temperature is lowest temperature where the gas might be ignited without presence of the source of the ignition. Meanwhile, LEL or Lower Explosive Limit is lowest concentration of the combustible gas in air which would propagate flames when exposed to the source of the ignition.
2 types of combustible gas detectors
There are 2 types of the combustible gas detector available in the market. First type is catalytic bead or electro catalytic that is also known to be passive type of the gas detector. Other type of combustible detector is infrared detector that employs infrared absorption since detecting technology. It’s the active combustible detector.
Electrocataytic type is used widely in different industries and usually applied as the singe point detectors for the combustible gas. The basic operating principle mainly based on the oxidation reaction of the combustible gases and oxygen from air on heterogeneous catalytic elements. Heat from reaction heats, platinum coil in catalyst and it also helps in changing resistance of coil. It is then monitored and measured.
There are mainly 2 factors which affect sensitivity of the catalytic gas detector that is blockage of flame arrestor through which the combustible gases flow through and poison active bead.
Several benefits of the electro catalytic sensors are low unit costs, better and simple accuracy as compared to detection methods.
