Turning Point
It's been over a week and I still feel good. I was surprised at first and wondered what was the turning point in my life? What was the defining moment when the good days became dominate, and the bad days just became bad moments during the day? For the answer, I looked back nearly two weeks to a time when I was in such torment that I lay in bed crying, my whole body shaking from the stress of losing my husband and having a difficult father. I cried out to God, please help me. And He did. He reminded me of how strong He is. And that He can carry my burdens better than I could. I remember my mother telling me that as a child. Take your burdens to God and leave them there.
But I couldn't do it.
I would take my burdens to God only to return later and ask for them back. It was as if I was saying, Lord, I'm not doing anything right now, why don't you give me my problems back so I have something to do.
But this time was different. I was too weak to carry them.
God tells us that he wouldn't give us more than we could bear. But how many of us question that? We lose someone in our lives and suffer tremendously and some christian comes up and tells us that and it leaves us cold because we know we're at the end of our rope. We know that we can't carry anymore because we're weak. But the question begs, are we capable of surviving anything if only we'd hand our burdens over to someone stronger?
My burdens were heavy. They were sapping the life out of me. They were keeping me up at night, making my days and nights miserable. I could not go on like that, so that night I pictured myself packing them in a suitcase and locking that suitcase. Then I handed each and every one of them to the Father and thanked him for taking them from me. At the time I did this, I was on blood pressure medication that wasn't working. My BP was 177/104. I was dizzy, felt physically horrible. I was dying inside everyday. But right after I gave those suitcases to God, things started to change. I felt a physical weight lift from me and I slept. The insomnia that haunted me went away and every night I slept well. I did so without medication. During the day, I felt good, emotionally and physically.
Now, I won't tell you that everyday is perfect. I have my moments. But they're just that: moments. Not something that takes up a whole day, a week, a month, or a lifetime. And when I have a moment, I remember the Father is there to carry that moment. I give it to Him and carry on with my day, safe in the knowledge that my journey is not one walked alone. He is there every step of the way, always willing to take my burdens from me.
Today my blood pressure is 138/94 and I no longer take blood pressure medication. You see, I gave that problem to the Father too.
