Sunday was a cold dreary day.. Snow, wind and rain. Als cows are starting to have their calves. We have lost a set of twins as I think they were born to early and now we have two more born ofcourse to seperate mothers. The first one was doing fine but the second one could not stand up to succle its mother. We had to go and get her and get her dried off as she was cold and shakey. Als son and daughter in law helped us with her. We fed her a bottle with certain nutrients that she needed that she would have gotten from her mother if she could have gotten up to do it. When we were done feeding her almost 2 quarts we stood her up and kept helping her to find her legs. After a couple of hours of getting her dry and standing her up she could stand on her own and walk a few steps. They are the cutest little things when they are little like that. We got her back to her mom and she was ok yesterday. Al said if we hadnt gotten to her she would have died so I am glad we could get her up and back to her mom. Waiting for more calves to be born.. Hope we dont lose any more. The kitty seems like she could be having her babies anytime as well. Just trying to get her comfortable and find a place that she will have them. I dont know alot about cats so Im just hoping I am doing the right thing. When they are old enough I will get them all fixed including mom and find people that want to take them. Annette, Als daughter in law said her and her mother could find homes for them..Weston and Laura, Als son and dl have chickens and the neighbors dogs got through the chicken house fencing and ate a couple of the chickens  and tore the fencing to bits. They just built this last summer and put alot of work into it. In Cedar Fort, the neighbors all just let their animals run free. Weston was pissed off  and caught one of the dogs with the chicken in its mouth and was furious. He went out to scare them off but Lorens dog (Loren is Als other sons, granddauhters boyfriend) wouldnt get out of the chicken house or drop the chicken. Weston shot at it and hit it and killed it. He felt horrible afterwards and took the dog down to Loren and told him what happened. Brandon, the owner of the other dog which is Als grandson and Loren both came up to Westons and apologized for what had happened and offered to fix  the chicken coup and buy new chickens.. Weston felt horrible about killing Lorens dog but didnt know what else to do to get it out from the chickens. The chickens are kind of rare and not your normal chickens and Laura has raised them from chicks. It all turned our ok but Weston is still feeling horrible about the dog.. He told Al he didnt think he would ever be able to do anything like that again. They keep their dog penned up anytime it is outside. I really dont think Weston meant to kill the dog but just over reacted. Loren understood though. It was a very sad thing..From being out in the cold and rain Sunday I became sick and missed work yesterday.. Feeling a little bit better today and came to work. Didnt want to piss my son off. Oh well, when I get home I will just lay down with a comfortable blanket and try to get feeling better. This is my story and Im sticking with it.. Oh yea, still sober....

Still sober after all that. Well done my friend :)
You\'re sort of like an animal midwife.

Wow....what a life you lead! It was very very sad to read about all the animal deaths. I love animals so much!! They are so helpless and innocent. I really feel bad about the dogs owner. It is all so very sad. I hope you are feeling better today. I am very sick...I dont think this weather helps at all. We got another 5 inches of snow. Is it ever going to end???????? I am sure you wonder the same thing. I love you my hero,.....the wind beneath my wings. Have a good day because you so deserve it!! You are an awesome woman!!
love ya

nice job staying sober.
sorry about the calves, glad you were able to save the one.
I remember when my cat had kittens when I was a child, we put a box with some clean rags where she would find it and she happily made it a nest.
All this new life, it has to feel good to be part of it.

Wow, What a lot you have on your plate. I think I would have loved to see a calf being born. I also didn\'t know about if they can\'t get up to nurse they die and good you were there to help they calf nurse.

I lost a couple of good chickens before I figured out it was my mini Dauchunds that were getting into the shed. I caught then one day with a chicken by the throat under my car. I had no idea as I thought it was a wild animal getting them. I\'m sorry for your friend. It is a tough call.

I\'m so glad your still sober! Yipee! Congrats! Hugs, Kelly :)

I love little calves and the smell of them. I do feel sorry for the dog who\'s owners should of not let them out like that cause they are a prey animal and most of them are hunters too and that is there instinct is to kill thinks like chickens and rabbits...I use to have alot of cats and had kittens too you just got to let them have their own time and space they will find a spot and start having them you do have to watch them like the heifers cause they can get stuck too good luck with all this baby thing going on it is that time of year and my horses have started to shed so I don\'t think we will have anymore way cold weather just maybe more snow ugh...Take care and try not to get to wore out this time of year with this stuff going on does do that...Hugz and Love Vic....Way to go on the staying sober your doing great...
