Trying to Keep Positive
Darn, gotta' go back to Corpus Christi Prosthetics already. The socks they gave me to put on under the outer stocking roll down in a matter of hours. They won't stay up underneath the outer stocking. When I say outer stocking, I assume it is a shrinker although it is similar to a support hose. I'm certain that the 'socks' they gave me are for wearing with the prosthetic leg, but I guess they use them to shrink as well. It's all very confusing to me.I'm just tired of this shrinking process which seems to not work on me. I'm beginning to be afraid that I will be stuck in this wheelchair permanently. It's a terrifying thought that I'm not sure I could live with. It's been about 14 weeks since my surgery, shouldn't I be in a prosthesis by now? I'm very frustrated and impatient at this point.

Ah Godluvnlady57, it is all in good time. Some of the folks on here got their prosthetics right away (either as an IPOP like Skiking) and did not have to wait so very long. But most of us either had the healing delay or the insurance delay. Sounds like you have more the provider delay, where you are in search for the right prosthetist. Believe me, time is neither your friend nor enemy, it simply is. And hurrying into something can be as bad as waiting it out. I was in a shrinker for almost 3 weeks before they started fitting me. I was also getting therapy during that time so I could then do better with the gait therapy once you get the new leg. It does sound like you need to find out from your prosthetist just what you are to do with those other socks. Yes, the shrinker is like a nylon. I don\'t understand why they would have given your prosthetic socks prior to getting the leg, but again, you need to check with them. You should also look to see what crutch options you can pursue. Once you get good with them, they are far more mobile than a wheelchair, and will help your progress with the new leg!
