Trying to Extract the Klingon
So, after continuously with the staring, the "I love yous", the grabbing, etc., yesterday as I was doing something in the kitchen, DH asks, "do you love me?" to which I answer (in a frustrated tone): "YES!" So he says, "Why do you say it like that?" And I said that I thought he was being really clingy lately (OK, I didn't use an "I" statement).
Instead of addressing that issue, he starts joking around (or at least saying in a joking manner), "so you detest me; you think this, you think that" and I say, "I didn't say that. You're putting words in my mouth." (Not the 1st time he's done this.) And he acts like I didn't even say anything & continues with telling my daughter (who was there), "Mommy hates me" etc.
Gosh darn it! Can he take ANYTHING I say seriously? I mean, if he's acting clingy because he feels "X", then why doesn't he just SAY SO without turing it into a joke? I guess turning it into a joke means that "there really isn't a problem--no problem at all!"
So for anyone who suggests "talk to your husband", I can't even start to talk to him. He won't talk; he'll just joke about it. And so the Klingon-ness continues. Instead of using his words to say what he wants, he just does this stuff for...what? I don't know! He won't say!!
Meanwhile, our 20th anniversary is coming up. His initial thoughts were going away overnight or going somewhere far. Personally, I don't want to go somewhere far, because our kids are still minors. But he doesn't get that. He is just focused on doing something alone with me. Okay, fine. So I'm starting to investigate the possibility of seeing a Broadway show. Though pricey, it's not far & it is something we've always wanted to do but have never got around to. It'll be fun for me & hopefully shut him up about all this (horrible attitude about an anniversary, I know! but he's driving me crazy!).
