Trying to be more independent

I am working so hard to be more comfortable living alone and I am trying to get out more because it has been almost a year since Jack died and the children need to get back to their own lives and families so this old gal had better shape up and be more independent.  I am really trying and I think I have made some progress because they do not come for the lengths of time they used to.  Please help me be more independent.

My husband died 13 months ago. I had to start becoming independent several years before that, when he 1st became ill. I was in no way prepared to be fully \"independent\". So, recently, I have started making small goals for myself. 1 major task each week, some that used to be Mark\'s to do, some I just hate doing. I also try to indulge in one selfish pleasure each week. This is usually harder than the task as I am not used to \"spoiling\" myself. These baby steps are helping me some.

Now, if I could just stand up to my (well-meaning) children!

Hello Mary - I know what you mean about the children - yes, they do mean well but it must be hard for them since they too are grieving for their father. Mine fell I must be \"over it\" by now but i am still very sad and lonesome many of the times - each day is a challenge. I love having people around but that is not always possible - my husband died eleven months ago and I am still waiting for him to walk in the door - watta guy he was. I will write you again, maybe we can both keep our chins up. a big hug is coming your way and have a blessed day. Agnes
