Trying to be green

Another Monday.  I am smiling a bit.  We had a good weekend - I am on a committee in our neighborhood which addresses safety and togetherness.  I live in a wonderful neighborhood which is considered inner city.  There are several condos in the area, as well as single family dwellings.  Unfortunately, a couple of years ago the city closed a bar that was rife with drug dealers etc.  When the bar closed, the activity moved across the river in to our area.  A couple of people were attacked on the path in front of our building.  We love our home and did not like being afraid to walk on our front lawn.  So a few of us got together to brainstorm about the issues.  We met with the police, parks department (there is a green space with dense bush in front of our building), the traffic department and our alderwoman.  It was a great meeting which resulted in improvements e.g. the police patrol regularly and the parks people go through the bush regularly and clean up the encampments.
Yesterday we held our second annual Information and Safety Fair.  We had a great turnout and are creating more interest in our project.  We invited the businesses in the area to provide draw prizes - we got well over $1000 worth.  Almost everyone got a prize.  We had booths from many of the social agencies.  The police, homeless foundation as well as the alderwoman gave brief presentations.  Our alderwoman inspired us to think bigger!  We are now going to advocate for making our area more walkable, especially the main business area.   It makes life a bit easier with a focus.
Tomorrow I fly to Ontario to see my brother.  He had a leg amputated last year and I am told his second leg may need to be amputated as well.  So life goes on.
I wish all a great week!
Lisa:  I miss you always and love you forever.
