Trying not to hate my brother

Like all siblings, my brother and I have always had our issues. Usually more than other, at least that's what I believe. I look back on my childhood and I cannot come up with one happy memory of my brother and myself interacting. I've always seen him as one of my bullies. 
We are both adults now, and he has a daughter, who is just amazing. I love my niece and I want to be around her, but it seems no matter how hard I try, he still gets to me. It's not as up front as it use to be, but now it's more in the way of snide comments about my clothes, lack of make up, my eyesight, pretty much everything. And it's not just to me,  it still gets to me when he goes after other people. He is just a freaking bully and I can't stand him. 
And now, I don't know what to do. Our parents will continue to do the same thing they always have, nothing. My brother will be his same smug self and not even listen when I try to talk or just stand up for myself. He is my brother, I don't want to hate him, but I don't know how much more I can take.
