trouble in the family

My wife's brother found out his wife and daughter were meeting men when they were supposed to be shopping so he lost his temper and slapped his daughter.  This is 3rd hand info so I don't know the whole story. Long story short, he was arrested for abuse and has a protective order against him and looking for a place to stay.  While I have an open door for anyone in need including family, I am soooo not looking forward to him staying here if he should come!  He only has two places to go, his older sisters and us.  I am praying that she take him in.

He is outwardly a nice guy who would do anything to help anyone. We borrowed money off him to buy out puppy for example but he does have a bad temper and we always knew it would get him in trouble one day.

My wife tends to get absorbed in the problems of others. She cannot put up an emotional wall between herself and someone else so I know that should he come here and start complaining about all the bad things in his life, my wife is going to dredge up things from the past about my drinking and drugging which I hate because it will trigger me to go back to it!

uh looks like he is here  uggghhhh!!!

Update:  he has a place to stay temporarily but may be moving in this weekend until his court date.

I will have to make the best of it.

Tough situation. Maybe you can ask your wife not to go down the path of talking about your past? Sorry you\'re feeling stressed about it - I hate that feeling of not feeling totally comfortable at home.

Hopefully your brother-in-law will be more like your description of him being a nice helpful guy. Hopefully his anger has subsided a bit after this.

It is good that you\'re helping out a family member - maybe keep that the focus - the positive part of it.

I wish you the best, and that everything goes smoothly!
