trip to the hospital
So the pain finally knocks me to my knees and I sucumb to going to the hospital at 4am. I've NEVER gone to a hospital for a migraine. I just can't stand it anymore after 5 miserable days at a 9pain. I drive myself to the EagleRidge hospital and admit myself, trying not to downplay the severity of it like the trooper that I always play. I am in serious pain and I need help so I have to give them all the goods.
I get admitted right away and the nice night doctor puts me onto a concotion of benadryl, something to open my veins, gravol and morphine and something else that I forget. "this clears it up for most people,"he says and I think wonderful. Well, I'm there for 5 hours and it does nothing but makes me high. The morphine hits and it is like Angels are lifting me up the heavens. I can still feel the monster pain below, but the angel is masking it so lovingly. I tell them that the migraine is still there but covered up by the drugs. They send me home with an extra dose of morhpine and 6 tablets of percaset (oxycotin). Stupid me drives home !!!!! What an idiot, I drove home!!
The migraine isn't gone at all and the next morning at 4am, I show up again. This time I have Jim drop me off so I'm not tempted to drive home again. New doctors and I have to explain it all again. They hook me up to a similar IV cocktail and shake their heads as to why it's not working. I feel like a drug addict, but they didnt' make me feel like one. That was my issue. I so want the pain to go away, it hurts so bad.
It was decided this time that they were going to give me a heart check, blood pressure and CT scan. I am so happy! Yes, please rule out something serious. Maybe I have a nail in my head since childhood and forgot about it??!! I tell them more symptoms about how clumsy I've been lately and the Graves disease and about my regime to get rid of migraines and how it's not working and how unusual this pain is, yet it is so classic.
The tests come back negative. I am fine. I am releived, but, why does this one hurt so bad for so long? I am exhausted and under the morphine, I can feel the monster just waiting for the drugs to wear off. This time I'm there for 9 hours as more blood tests come up clean.
I feel so depressed and lost. Why can't they find anything for migraine patients? My doctor just shakes his head sadly and chews at his inner lip. He says'go home and rest and take these 6 percocets and if you still have it in two days, come back and we will keep you overnight."
I thank him for his efforts and leave. Fortunately for me, that night, it lifted. But I know that in a couple of days, or sooner I will have another migraine. I can pray it will not be as bad as the last, but I have no guarantee. All I have for the trouble is just a few percocet should it turn out to be horrible. I'll hold onto those like gold.
The next day I go to work and my boss is very sympathetic and tells me to take it easy. He even sends in a coworker who tells me she has been asigned to help me. How sweet
Inside I just want to cry and cry. For 30 years no one knows what causes this, and that is the first thing people ask. Find out what cuases this and stop it. I'm already on a restrictive diet amonst other things. I don't know what else to do other than live in a dark box. I've prayed so much and still haven't found the answers. It's getting worse. I've now have had them look inside of me properly and still nothing is found.
I've got a big painful nothing going on and it's getting worse. I knew the hospital would get me nowhere. I can tick that experience off of my list of things I've tried.

Enigma, I feel so saddened by what\'s going on with you. 30 years!! I can\'t believe it. I had a thought... what about these \"psychic\" doctors who can sense the cause of the illness? I\'ve heard of them (Carolynn Myss mentions such a doctor in one of her books). It seems as if you need someone radically different. Maybe this specialist is the one for you though so hang in there.
Big Hug to you!
Ama
Oh Angela, I\'m so sorry for your ongoing suffering. I know it must have been extreme for you to go to the ER... but to get absolutely no relief from what most people see as their \"last resort\" would have been distressing in itself. I\'m so sorry you didn\'t get any relief... it\'s just not fair... but at least you have ruled out some things for when you see the specialist. If only we could speed up time, so that your appt would come sooner for you. I think it\'s amazing that you are still managing to work... thank goodness your boss is understanding.
I\'m thinking of you and sending gentle comforting hugs and positive energy your way. Take care... Gaye... xxx
I will not stop praying for you and the doctors...........words can\'t explain my empathy.
Bear Hug,
David.
Hoping and praying that you find some answers and some long tern relief!
Hugs
