Trip to Florida
My dad's sister is 85 and has alzheimer and is getting bad rather quickly. It is unclear if she is aware of our presence. I agreed to fly with him from Tennessee to Florida just hoping I could do this. Our flight was delayed 5 hours in the airport! We were both exhausted by the time we arrived. I knew the next day was going to be rough. My cousin had breakfast out, visit to my aunt and a family of 15 dinner planned. It was a busy day. I am used to laying around most days in quiet so this was quite a change. That day was awful! I have never felt so sick and so bad in my life. I felt like I needed to go to the emergency room or die. I felt so desperate. I remembered my cousin with fibromyalgia told me the only thing that would relieve her was a small drink of cognac or brandy. I had my dad run to the store and he brought back some Hennessy cognac. I took a small drink, about an ounce and within minutes the sickness had subsided enough that I was able to have dinner and play two games of cards with my cousins. It is the strangest thing that no medication will help me, but a small amount of cognac will. I wonder if it affects part of the brain somehow. I enjoyed the rest of my visit without any more and am now home sitting outside by the pool in the quietness of the day. It is so nice to be back to my familiar surroundings and routine. I don't think I will do too much more traveling like that anymore.

Feeling exhausted today. All the traveling has caught up with me. I am having mixed feelings today. I am trying so hard to balance my energy output and now am being faced with seeing all my kids and grandkids or staying in bed all day. I rarely see them because they live an hour away and so busy that this is rare, but I am so exhausted that I should stay in bed all day. I will rest today and try to do little tomorrow, but that is hard when you have little ones reaching up to you and asking for their granny or the older ones wanting to play games and they don\'t understand that granny is sick because she looks so normal. Next week will probably be the bed for me. Oh well, it\'s about choosing what\'s important these days to spend the energy envelope on. Grandkids win every time:)
My g/kids win every time too!!! LOL..we just can\'t help it. Mine live in another state. I\'m not usually well enough to make the trip out there, so we don\'t see them as much as we did before I got sick. It\'s been eight years with me and CFS. I did get to spend their early years with them, when I was in good health! Now that my hubby is sick, there is really no making that trip for him either! Gosh, this is gonna be tough. They just have to bring the kids to us. Disabled is disabled. We don\'t travel well.
I totally understand how exhausted you must have been on that trip! How you got on a plane, I have no idea. Well, I\'m afraid to fly in the first place, but it I had to, I would. I\'m so sorry that you felt so poorly during your visit, but CFS just isn\'t \"travel friendly\". We are all used to being home in a dark quiet room, most of the time and in control of our surroundings. Doing what you did took courage and compassion. Proud of you for doing it.
Sorry you\'re in bed now, but not surprised. I\'m so glad you are here with us and we can share your experiences with you. Sorry I didn\'t get to this journal sooner. I don\'t get journal alerts...I just sneak around and check on my friends and look for journals myself. Sometimes my life gets to busy for me to do that.
Glad you journaled, my friend! Feel better! xoxo
Hi Darla, been thinking of you and Bobby and wondering how you were doing. Well, I had a wonderful day with the kids and grandkids. I tried to take it as easy as possible, but as you know the busyness of everything also wears you out. I laid around most of Monday, but I am really feeling it today :/ I don\'t feel sick just really weak and unable to do much. It was totally worth it though :)
My husband and I have been planning a trip with friends this fall to Cabo. After the trip to Florida it has me worried. I told my friends I may not be much fun and I can\'t predict if I will be able to do much. they have been pretty understanding of my illness. My girlfriend said we would take one day at a time and see what I felt up to and if they wanted to do something and I couldn\'t they would do it and hook up with me later. She always seems to know what to say. I was worried they would feel obligated to stay back with me at the hotel. I am thinking of doing it. I feel having my husband there will give me peace of mind that I will be looked after if I get really sick. Have you done any long trips like that?
