Travelling to Taiwan Questions & Tips
Since I'll be in Taipei with my friend for 5 days I will move out of Taipei. I am thinking book a hotel in Kaohsiung and spending two days in this city and use the train for an hour to day trip to Tainan. We then used Express Airport MRT when we returned which was perfect and I’d definitely recommend over taxi/bus if staying near a train station. Also a couple Ubers/Taxi’s when needed outside of MRT which were fairly cheap. MRT – cheap and easy to use and therefore crowded, at peak hour I am reminded of sardines in a tin can. Will take you to most places you want to go in Taipei.
Situated in Taitung City, Modena B&B provides 3-star accommodation, as well as a swimming pool. It also features free Wi-Fi, 台東 名產 luggage storage and a tour desk. The locations and facilities were excellent, as was the transportation to get us there.
Maccas, KFC, Burger king, MOS burger, you can all get these around that region. I really do enjoy visiting there – seems less "spoilt" than certain other Asian countries. People are friendly, public transport is well organised, food is nice. Plenty of great vegetarian cuisines and cafes, visit the night markets in Taipei for some delicacies too.
Taipei 101 Observation Deck – only visit on a clear day. When I was over there for 9 days, I uploaded alot of photos and did something like a total of 40gb in download/uploads. I thought I could save some bucks buying tickets separately, given the cheap fare for MEL-HKG leg, but the HKG-TPE just blew it all lol.
Our end destination was Taichung, which is about a 2 hours drive south of Taoyuan Airport. Along the way, we stopped by a popular local stall (三義三十年豆花) in Sanyi for lunch. This place is known for its Peanut Soya Beancurd, as well as Hakka dishes which seemed to be a common cuisine in this part of Taiwan.
Went there on a couple of school excursions and it was really amazing... I haven't been but all reports are that it's well worth visiting. December, January, and February are the best time for me to visit.

We ordered some simple Taiwan dishes from one of the aggressive vendors. Luckily, food was not as awful as its online reputation. Breakfast with a view at Hu Yue Lakeview HotelWe checked out of Hu Yue Lakeview Hotel and started our real sightseeing tour of Sun Moon Lake. How many frogs you see that day would determine how high the water level is. While I was collecting the WiFi, my partner was a short distance away, at another counter collecting our prebooked rental car.
