Transition
Transition is over. The culmination of 7 weeks of classroom and on the job training. I enter the real world Monday. It's been a long journey. Full of sorrow, frustration, terror, fear, and joy. Transition is a 2 week period of on the job training where we have close support from trainers on a five to one ratio. The real world will have a 25 to 1 ratio. There have been good calls, bad calls, hungups, frustration and miracles. I wish I could tell you about them, but that would be against company policy as all calls are in confidence to protect the caller. There was one call I really wish I could tell you about. It was a miracle and it proved to me that AT&T has a heart as big as Texas. It's one I will never forget. There have been ups and downs. Times when I wanted to quit and times when I knew I wanted this job and could be good at it. We were evaluated every day on what is expected of us. Certain criteria we have to meet. The numbers were color coded with red being bad, yellow meaning caution, and green meaning good. My colors went from many reds to the last evaluation with greens and a few yellows. Quite a turnaround in a week. The end of transition means the loss of close contact with our classmates. We've been in a small area together for the passed 2 weeks and looked to each other for support. We had our meals together. Our breaks together. We've had some losses. Three of our class didn't make it through class. Another didn't make it to transition. And another, one who everyone was one of the best in our class, left after a week of transition. Now, we will go our separate ways. There is a team system and our classmates will be going to different teams. Two of my classmates will go with me to my team. The others will scatter out to 6 other teams. I will miss them. As for me, it seems I'm kinda unusual. Of course, I've never and most people who know, would ever think I was usual. Yall know that from reading my journals. But, I seem to have a different style. I can gain a repore with callers faster and easier than most. I'm very outgoing to the point of joking with the callers. During transition, our trainers hook up and listen to our calls and watch what we do. Some of them have told me they enjoyed listening to me and marveled at the repore I establish with the callers. But, it really came home to me the other day, when a girl from another transition class came up and told me she enjoyed listening to me. I guess I talk too loud. But, I enjoy talking with people. It's my favorite part of the job. Now, it's on to the real world. I'm a little scared, but not as much as 2 weeks ago. Quite a turnaround.
