Training for my first 5K

So, I started a class in my community called C25K (Couch to 5K) that meets twice a week at a local park. I have decided to give myself a goal to commit to that will help my on my weightloss journey. I have always wanted to try to run a marathon, but I am nowhere near in good enough shape too. So, I thought I would start with training for my first 5K. I walk the distance of a 5K several times a week, and in my healthier days use to run 6 miles a day several times of week, so a 5K should be reasonable.

I have been on an emotional roller coaster ride these past three years that have really aided in me putting on the weight. I was an emotional eater, but have finally got the balance back in my life to learn my triggers and prevent the binges. To date I have lost nearly 14 pounds on my goal to lose 50 lbs by summer. So I am going strong..

C25K Week 1 was last week it is a program that has you gradually build up your running ability by interval training. Week one we did a two minute walking warm up followed by 1 minute run/1 minute walk intervals. This was done 15 minutes.

Week 2 of this program will have us doing 2 minute runs/1 minute walk, and each week you add a minute to the run until you are running continuously up to 5K. This last week was fairly easy for me, but I do believe this week will definitely be more of a challenge.

I am on the right track, and doing well though.

Have a great week.
