Tragic Strikes Again

Around 11:00 last night my 17 year old granddaughter and her boyfriend was hit at high speed by a drunk driver.  Her boyfriend was treated and released.
The creep who was dog drunk that hit her walked away without requiring any treatment...but straight to JAIL..THANK GOD!
My Granddaughter has suffered very serious injuries:
Broken Vertebra's in her neck area.  Broken Cheek bone and Jaw Bone.  A large deep cut from her left eye to her lower cheek, fractured ribs, hip area, pelvis.  Her spleen is bleeding, she has swelling on the brain. Possible some brain damage.  She is on a vent, pain meds, all the good tubes that go with ICU units.
The plan:  Based on the Bleeding in the Spleen/Swelling of the Brain
Monday:  Surgery to re-open the incision on her face to repair the broken cheek bone with a small plate inserted, repair of her broken jaw...mouth to be wired together for several weeks.
Spleen to be removed if bleeding does no stop.
Swelling on Brain will probably affect the decision on surgeries.
A neck brace to be worn to heal the broken vetebra's.
She will be in the hospital up to four weeks depending on her progress.
Recovery can be up to 6 months or more.
Today she did respond some to command by doctors, but has not woke up.
UPDATE:  4:17 p.m. Jessica woke up, she was doing sign language to talk (but no one knew she could do sign language or could understand it.  They found something to make letters so she could point to letters so they could understand what she is trying to say.
After a bit the doctors felt she needed to be sedated more so she would sleep and not over stimulate to cause more problems while trying to recover.
I pray and hope she makes it with all my heart.
The scary part for me and my husband, except for it was an accident and Ken had cancer, going into the unit to visit Jessica was just like going into the unit to visit Ken.  The tubes, the vent, the bags all was like doing it all over again with Ken.
Even her waking up is the same as Ken did after his surgery when his brother's visited him.
I could not even show any emotions as knowing if I did I might have a total meltdown.  Scared that we are facing the same situation in the end with Jessica as we did with Ken.
Our family has been hit so much even our pastor says to us "I don't even know what to say"....
Just keeping the faith that God will allow continue healing for Jess and that she will be able to leave the hospital and live a full life.
Asking each of you for your prayers for my family.
Sandi...Ken's mom forever
