Took Dad to ER

I really appreciate the comments on my journal.  They are very helpful and supportive and I need that. Me and Mr Now went to an out of the way MA meeting.  He's in school to be a drug and alcohol counselor and needed to attend a 12 step meeting he's never attended. It was cool to hear his own story of how mj was a problem in his teen years.  It was great to be there, and I got emotional because it's my home program and I'm not there enough, so inspired to keep coming back. I laid it out for him what I've been coming to terms with about emotional honesty with the situation, and I felt heard, and I felt a new closeness between us afterwards.  It wasn't all pretty the way it came out like difficult stuff usually happens to come out of me, but I did it. YAY.  So now we're dating instead of BF and GF - I said there was no getting-to-know-you time.  His bday party is tomorrow and I'm a little nervous.  I just told him I don't know if I can "live up" to that GF role and I need to get to know him (and him me) better.  I feel blessed to have him in my life. Today mom took doggie to the vet and dad had been in bed since yesterday afternoon.  Mom had checked on him yesterday and I feel bad we hadn't been more on top of it.  I woke to him needing to go to the ER, and I spent the day there with him and my sis and mom and niece & nephew came.  He has jaundice, anemia and hemolysis which means his blood is being broken down.  His white blood cell count is more than double at 24k.  He had the look of  blood in his urine and was weak - the Dr said that is actually the color of the bile coming out.  Apparently he had jaundice as a baby.  It was emotional as they first suspected  pancreatic cancer, which his dad died from.  They ruled that or any kind of cancer out.  He got a CAT scan and an ultra sound, and now they're waiting for the blood specialists to go over his blood tests.  It is all quite sudden and shocking and sad. I got to hear mom tell dad she loved him for the first time I think in my life, I'm quite certain.  Sad it takes this to have us appreciate someone, as it has been a difficult marriage. I'm grateful for my sobriety and that my life enabled me to be there for my dad and my family, if imperfect, at least capable. One of the ER intake nurses was from an AA meeting!  I was so happy to be recognized and recognize him, what a God Shot.  He asked if he was "one of us" or "should be" because of the look of his jaundice.  No.  He said he didn't look good.  Later I cried and thanked him for being there, that it meant a lot, and he hugged me.  I don't think I've said hi to him before if that.  But the love of the program comes through and that was major for me that God is in control and we have angel helpers all over the place. I'm sad.  I'm sad dad is sick. He turnes 65 Friday.  I'm just sad and anxious, and feeling rather helpless and shocked. Not easy to go through and what can I do but just try to be there as best I can??

UPDATE: I did some research, and the Dr had asked about him eating anything unusual. There is the answer - fava beans and I\'m learning \"favism\", or anemia resulting from eating fava beans, common to people in Mediterranean cultures with a G6PD - a type of deficiency. I was able to call mom at the hospital - he\'d finally been admitted to a room. The Dr mentioned this type of deficiency people are born with. This is a rare condition but hopefully we have found some answers.

I\'m glad I did a little online research - I got these results in minutes! Wow. Thank God and angels - this may help him.

So sorry to hear about your father, but you are so lucky to have a doctor who was smart enough to diagnosis this rare condition. I have heard of deficencies like that, it can mimic terminal illnes, but it isn\'t. Just a bad reaction to something he will now have to avoid. You are truly blessed, and your family is so lucky to have you with them. continued love and support from all of us at DS, we will be praying for you and your father!!! Loveya, J.

Yes, there are angels all over. God is taking care of you: the nurse in the ER. What a blessing to hear your mom say she loves your dad for the first time in your life! Prayers are coming your way from me. You are surrounded in God\'s perfect love.

Wow, it does continually amaze me at how you are always grateful regardless of circumstance. And that is as it should be, but most are not, so it is inspirational to see that reflected in your life and thoughts.

I\'m so sorry for the scare with your dad, and it\'s wonderful to hear that they\'ve discovered the source! Maybe it will bring your parents closer, and something good will come of this. My thoughts are with you. Keep your head up. ((hug))

big hugs about your Dad!!! I\'m so happy you had an angel helper there, isn\'t it wonderful, when we really see that happen in our lives, I think it is a sign to show us and remind us that we are doing the right things. Your dad is so young. I hope that he will be alright.
I\'m glad that you worked things out with the new guy, and set your boundaries. I totally hear you, about it not being pretty when you let it all out. I am like that too. And I hear you about getting to know yourself too. You\'re doing great! and you\'re keeping positive. Have an excellent day!

Hey, I love you and the way you are and your recovery speaks volumes Thanks so much for sharing BTW I am 63 and had an episode with Bile /Pain liver enlarging 50%..I thought it was payback for living a wicked life(I recovered at 38) and after over 30 Grand worth of tests They said I had a fatty liver and gave me no information about recovery
Since that time I learned moderate excersize and beet juice works
also tried milk thisal but it may not be good
Now I go to an acupuncture
I will pray for your dad , you and your family.

PS my wife is not pretty when she lets it all out... but when my best friend tells me I need to change..I take a look and usually find more ( into me I see)

Sorry to hear the bad news, that would\'ve been scary. I hope your dad gets better quickly, I\'ll be praying for him. big HUGS. That is so strange about the fava beans, but good to know what caused it, must be a relief to know.
