Today\'s Weird Experiences
Two seemingly unrelated things happened to my friends and family today: 1) My parent's garage was graffiti'd with swastikas and SS logos. There were at least 3 on their garage, and a bunch on other houses up and down the street. 2) My good friend received a gun he bought a few weeks ago. For some reason, I find the events to be very connected right now. This major economic disaster has got me, and my friends, on edge - I can't help but have visions of break lines, crime and general disaster when I read the news every morning. Generally, I've been pretty against gun ownership, but in light of the difficulties we're all going to be facing this year, I feel somewhat naked and concerned, and grasping for control....perhaps a gun is one way to at least feel some control. To my non-gun-owning friends, you needn't worry - I'm not buying one tomorrow...but I understand the sentiment more. As for the graffiti, it's very surprising to see this kind of activity here, in West Los Angeles. I think there's like a million Jews (my family representing just some of them) in this area, and I could perhaps imagine this kind of activity in a less diverse place, but here? Just seems odd...and I hope it's the work of some really stupid kids, and not much else. Anyway, hate to dump on y'all, but we all have tough days....
