Today I am patting myself on the back

I knew today would be a bit of a challenge, coming off a birthday that was lovely in many ways, if lonely in others.  And the ex was here today for a few hours fixing a broken door for me.  That unsettled me a lot.
So once he left I decided to go talk to a friend who runs a small business up the street.  He always lifts my mood.  We just chat about the neighborhood and life and stuff.  Good guy.
Came home and read for a while.  Talked to my dad, and that was good.
And sat here and ruminated a bit and decided I need to build myself a personal resume of a hugely positive nature.   And build myself up in the process. So I can quit beating myself up so much over so many things.   I don't like to "brag" about myself.  And I sell myself short all the time.  I need to stop that.  I just don't like to be prideful.  I don't like to toot my own horn.  And I am far from perfect.
But here goes, this is what good I bring to the universe:
I am educated, literate and want to keep learning, all the time and share what I learn.
I always root for the underdogs in life.  That is how I was raised.
I love children, animals and old people.  I have patience with them.
I have somehow succeeded in raising two wonderful children who are now doing great things with their lives.
I know how to choose friends, if not husbands.  I have the most amazing friends on earth.
I value friendship very dearly.
I am a great neighbor and community minded person.  Trust me, you want to live next door to me.  I always have your back - you can knock on my door anytime, borrow what you need, take what you need.  We are all in this together.  I have rescued so many loose dogs and gotten them home in the last year.   And so many other things for this little 'hood I live in.
You need a ride, call me.   I drove someone home from work much of last year for not enough $ to pay for the gas I used but...  It helped her and her kids out a lot.  I said no when I could not do it but I did it every day I could, for her.
I want to be a giver, not a taker.  Again, that is how my parents taught me to be.
I value family very highly.  It matters so much to me.  I miss them all. And as the years go on I see that blood is indeed thicker.  I love family history and traditions.  It anchors me.
Give me something to do and I will do it.  I have a strong work ethic.
I am not materialistic.  I have no use for people who are, in this economy. Just presenting with their fancy cars and clothes and disregarding those who could use some help.
Nature pleasures me and always has.  I believe that to be a good quality.  It brings me joy to be right in the thick of any of it.
I can teach just about any child to read, no matter how old.  I have no degree in that but I Can Do It.  And that is the key to success.
The schools here are failing and it makes me sad. And I am caught in that trap, till I get the heck out.  I saw one coworker make a huge change today for the better and I am thrilled for her for doing it. She got screwed in May by the big bosses and quit on the spot.  Go her.  She has cojones.   Need that boldness myself.
Time to stop for now but I am on a personal roll here and it feels good.
