To everything thing there is a purpose...
I'm sitting here, nibbling on homemade chocolate chips cookies (yep, not in the diet but YUM!), and working on my business plan. I THOUGHT today was going to be the day I finish it, but nope.... I forgot to get the information on disease prevention and disinfectants and have to order a book on it that won't be here for a week, so nope....
Another storm is coming - we're supposed to get another 4 inches of snow tonite. I'm disappointed because I REALLY want mountain biking season to get here so I can train for the race more, but on the other hand this is a GOOD thing.... first, because I'm proofreading my plan and fine tuning it (taking a break right now, of course); 2nd because I need an uninterrupted indoor day to get things ready.
So, let me tell you about the "purpose" thing that's going on right now....
In the paper this week, my vet clinic had an ad that they were doing $5 rabies shots on cats and dogs. What an opportunity to get all my animals updated for little money! So I took them all in, got them their shots... they pulled Fuzz out of his carrier and commented on how he was such a big cat.... really? I guess I always thought of him as my little baby and he's the smallest out of all of them! But seeing him as they see him, yeah, I guess he is pretty big....
And that opened up my eyes to what other things I'm not noticing....
After the vet, I took a little detour to go visit my friend Jack in the nursing home again. I'm SO GLAD I did. He was VERY coherent this time, had gone through all this chocolates (I brought backup, lol), and THEN the question came... "where is that husband of yours"....
UGH. Decision time. Lie to him and say he's busy, or tell him the truth. I chose truth.
Can you imagine how horrible both of us would feel if I lied to him and the truth accidently slipped out through my own words or that of another friend? I felt so bad in telling him, but putting myself in his shoes, I'd want to know...
I was there for an hour. We talked about what happened, I told him about the divorce and briefly skimmed over why, the DUI's, the state David slowly deteriorated to at the end. Jack said he wished he could have seen him - but I told him it was better that he didn't; he wouldn't have recognized David if he had and that David's mental state was pretty bad toward the end. I promised to bring photos of David in 2 weeks when I come see Jack again (with a new supply of chocolates and peanuts).
I was also more prepared this time... I brought stuff to talk about. Photos of Paige. Photos he could keep. It was a very nice conversation. I'm SO GLAD I went...
Then I went to Rapid - the fog parted and blue sky came shining out! I got flea & tick meds for my dogs, picked up some pavers to reduce mud issues in my backyard, and stopped over at the dog daycare there to get more info. There was something odd there.... I couldn't pinpoint it, but would I leave my dogs there in the future? I'm thinking no. The layout was great, staff was nice, but walking in the door it felt dark, depressing. I don't know why exactly I didn't like it. But again, I'm glad I went... it showed me the kinds of buildings that would work (service garage style) and gave me ideas on what I would need at my entrance (such as windows that allow customers to peek in and see the dogs playing)....
It was a GORGEOUS day, I got working as soon as I got home, made a paved path to my shed, went inside and got cleaned up to go to church. This was the first of the "Hold the Door" series. It was not what I was expecting - though I really don't know what I was expecting - but it was about helping others. About getting out of our comfort zones and going to work. They played a video that showed a lady who prayed that God would let her know what needs people had, and 2 days later, people just started telling her and she was able to help.... and BAM, the idea came into my head that when I'm ready to get this business going, I can let the church know that I have a need to rent out my house - filling the need for someone else - and I can use the camper to allow myself more time to get the business going! And, btw, the service weekend is the sunday after I pick up the camper and I volunteered to paint at the humane society, and that will allow me to ASK about disease prevention and get THEIR input on my business ideas!
And SO, today, I'm GRATEFUL for being able to see that I need to slow down even more and LEARN.... I need to learn to organize and reduce my home imprint so that I can pack it all up quickly if I need to move out to get started (a leaky basement wall has shown me that one).... I need to learn how to trust others more so that I can find quality employees to help me when I need them (a friend calling yesterday showed me this one)... I need to learn how to ask for help (my friend called just moments ago again with another EXCELLENT business idea).... I need to learn not to have judgments and expectations (and learn patience)... I need to build more friendships and participate in the community more (get myself out there!)....
I thought I'd have to make a decision this month on whether or not to start up my business this year, but yesterday, I realized that God has slowed things down so that I have time to learn.... He'll let me know when it's time to BEGIN... Time to get back to work! LATER!
