Tis the Season for Sickness

All three of us have been sick back and forth for the last 3 1/2 weeks! It's almost getting ridiculous. Ava has been to the Dr 3 times! The first week, Ian took her for a bad cold and chronic cough, then last Thursday she got pink eye (which came with another cold right when the first one we thought was ending), then 5 days after the pink eye, yesterday, I brought her in for that same chronic cough she's had that seemed to get progressivley worse in the last 5 days. These coughing attacks, which started occuring a few hours after I put her down for the night, were so bad that she was gagging, turning red and gasping for air and a few times she puked. I was lucky to get in an hour stretch of sleep at a time. Poor thing. She didn't want me to hold her upright, craddled, on her belly - nothing! She was miserable, as was I. Something had to give! And I've been sick right along with her with terrible upper sinus congestion, headaches and low-grade fever. It sure is tough caring for a sick little one when your sick yourself. No time to take care of myself. And I'm forcing myself to go to work because I need to save my sick time for her. Ian has been a great help and offering to stay up at night to help but he doesn't have the nipple she so desparetly seeks in the middle of the night for soothing so I just tell him to go to bed and turn off the monitor. One of us might as well get sleep. I'm still frustrated even though he's trying to help. So yesterday's appointment revealed she has a touch of RSV, a respitory virus and a double ear infection. The respitory virus can be very serious but luckily she has a mild case of it so she doesn't require the oxygen treatments they usually prescribe. She also has a double ear infection. I also made an appointment for myself after Ava's appointment and I have a sinus infection. We were both prescribed antibiotics so Iam hoping and praying that we will be feeling better soon. I so desperately need sleep. Last night was a little better. She woke only once with an attack about 11:45 that lasted until about 1:00 am. After that, she coughed all night but no attacks. Although my sleep wasn't great, I actually got some sleep which makes a world of difference! Yesterday I was a zombie! Almost reminded me of those dreaded, sleepless newborn nights lol:)

In the last 3 1/2 weeks, I have come to the conclusion that if my baby has a cold and she's under two years of age, nothing can be done. You can just grin and bear it and if your lucky, the following home remedies might work or at least subside the symptoms. This time, none of them worked for us. Here is what tried: rubbed vicks on her feet, chest and back at bedtime, raised her mattress, put her on her side, put her on her stomach (she HATES that), tried having her sleep in her car seat and bouncy, sucked her nose with saline every night, morning and all day long, gave her chamomile tea, gave her extra water, gave her Tylenol (she had a low grade fever), used a cold mist humidifer and tried the steam shower; nothing worked! I have also santizied my house and her toys 3 times! Of course, she is in home day care which does not help. It is really tough caring for a child when we're all sick ourselves. It's terrible. I know it's the time of year for all these viruses but darn, this has been grueling. I do see a light at the end of the tunnel though! Spring is right around the corner and with that, comes fresh air and less illnesses! Sorry to rant and rave but man we're sick of bring sick! I know we're not alone so I hope everyone feels better!

On a more positive note, my baby will be 8 months old on March 8th! 5 more days! I have to start thinking about 9 month outfits for pics!
