Tips For The First Three Months of Your Pregnancy

Every mother wants her baby to be healthy in the world. There are a number of important issues that you should consider when you are pregnant. You have to watch out for illnesses and leave a few things. Below we give tips to ensure the health of you and your child.
Medicines
Do not use any medicines without consulting the doctor. Medications can have harmful effects on the baby, because this substance can not be completely filtered by the placenta. If you are already taking medication, you should ask your doctor if you can continue with it. If medication is needed during pregnancy, the GP will have to consider what is the least harmful. Those who have severe headaches or fever may take paracetamol, but in moderation.
Toxoplasmosis
In feces of cats, and therefore also in garden soil, there is a parasite that can cause the infection toxoplasmosis. This can also occur in raw meat. A pregnant woman can transfer this infection to the unborn child in which eyes, liver or brain can be affected. The infection is difficult to recognize, so it is important to take this into account and try to prevent it.
Smoking and alcohol consumption
Nicotine is bad for the baby. Although the placenta functions as a kind of filter, nicotine can actually reach the baby 's bloodstream. The baby can therefore have a lower weight at birth or even be born (too) early. Another thing that should not be overlooked is that smoking prevents the supply of oxygen in the mother's blood, which also makes the flow to the child less successful.
Alcohol consumption can also cause harm to the unborn child, such as heart defects or growth retardation. Yet women are sometimes advised to take a glass before bedtime for a good night's sleep. Panic does not have to be immediate, but it is true that alcohol is not good for the baby.
Are you already arranging maternity care?
Feel free to call the maternity center or a private custodian if the first three months have passed. Nowadays it is busy in 'maternity care' and the first week a nice maternity help in the house, is actually indispensable. Also think about where the birth should take place: at home or in the hospital, and consult with the midwife.
Do I have to have an amniocentesis done?
There must be nothing. Those who are 36 years or older may have a puncture done around the fifteenth week. It is meant to find out whether the child has a metabolic disorder, a serious abnormality such as an open spine or Down syndrome. With a thin needle, some amniotic fluid is absorbed through the abdominal wall and uterine wall, containing living cells of the fruit. The result is known two to three weeks later. The chance of a miscarriage is slightly increased by a puncture.
What is amniotic fluid?
Fruit water is formed immediately when the fertilization has taken place. Moisture of the large blood vessels of the placenta and the umbilical cord is collected, as it were, in a separate room. If the baby is a little bigger, it produces a part of the amniotic fluid by peeing. It is clear in color, smells sweet and is refreshed repeatedly. The function. Amniotic fluid provides protection against bacteria that can cause an infection. It keeps the baby nice and warm and is also a buffer against all kinds of obstacles from the outside, when the mother punches her belly against the table for example. Sometimes the child swallows amniotic fluid, which, by the way, is only beneficial because it learns to swallow (and gets the hiccups!).
The quality. The quality is important because a lot can be read. The ratio between the proteins, sugars and fats is important. There are also substances that come from the lungs of the baby. Therefore, after amniocentesis, it can be checked whether the lungs are already ripe. The amount of amniotic fluid can say something about the condition of the child or a deviation from the placenta. Too much can indicate a deviation in the esophagus, the nervous system or the duodenum. Too little can indicate a kidney abnormality.
