Time to Start a New Journey
Hello All,
I got so busy with the other things going on (and being angry at Daily Strength because their web site only lets me sign in with Internet Explorer) that I have not spent much time keeping track of what is going on here as well as posting my ramblings.
Soooooooooooo ............... awaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy wwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeee gggggggggggoooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
I actually had to take a moment to see what the last thing I wrote was. I did start back to work in August, but I was having a harder time keeping my manager satisfied. Finally on October 10th I was terminated. Fortunately I received severance pay. When I checked myself into the hospital I knew it was time for a change of life, so now it is time for me to take those first steps.
So what have I done to start on that new life? After agreeing to take time for myself and to get the sleep I need each night, I applied for a driver position with a local volunteer ambulance. Once I get the physical out of the way it's time to start on the training, and before you know it, I'll be going on runs and helping people.
I am also in the process of obtaining some assistance through a New York State program named ACCESS-VR (previously called VESID). I have been involved with the Knights of Columbus for 3/4 years, and have been working as PR director for a couple of years. A number of my brother Knights have commented that I am a people person, which leads me to want to do more PR work, getting out and helping other people or organizations. I live in the City of Rochester New York. It is in Western New York. The graduation rate for the City of Rochester School District is not very good. The ratio of people living below the poverty level is one of the worst in the Nation. This led me to the conclusion that this is why I am located in Rochester: to lend a helping hand. And by working in the Public Relations field with the organizations that are helping I can do my part. I have spent the last 30 years working for me, and it's time for me to do something for those that can't. That, along with driving ambulance would be doing quite a bit to help other peoples to help themselves.
So ACCESS-VR determined that I am eligible for their services, and am going to be sent for a vocational assessment. I just can't be in a hurry. It's been two weeks and I'm still waiting.
But, in the meantime, I heard that the Knights of Columbus, which offers their own life insurance program, is looking for an insurance agent for the West Side of Rochester. I will be meeting with someone next week for that position. It's not what I was thinking of, but it is worth thinking about. From what I saw in the videos I saw online the position entails quite a bit of work. At it's heart it is basically a PR job, being the face of the Knights in the area.
So I find myself putting my faith in God, that he will lead me to the position he has chosen for me. And I am content making this decision.
But that still leaves me a lot of work to do. I need to go to school for the Knights (mostly learning insurance law) as well as for the ambulance (first aid procedures, Incident Command Management procedures, how do drive under lights and sirens).
And to top it off I am also studying for my Commercial Driver's License for bus driving. Also a very meaningful job, and it gives me my days free.
