Time for the rubber to hit the pavement

Well, don't  really know where to begin.  Last week mom was returned from the hospital to the nursing home.  I knew it wasn't good then, but didn't expect things to go downhill so fast.  Today I received a call from the doctor at the nursing home around 10 AM.  She wanted me to tell her whether or not they should send mom to the ER again.  I asked what the issues were and whether or not her pain is being caused by the renal failure.  I was shocked to here that, in more than a week, the nursing home has not received the diagnostic reports from Mom's inpatient time a week and half ago.  The doctor couldn't really tell me anything without those test results.  I spent from 10 AM until 4 PM fighting with the hospital medical records department and the privacy officer who is on all of their HIPPA forms.  Each time they promised the information.  Each time they failed.  Finally God provided that I would be in the office on my cell phone with the hospital when the doctor called to see if the records had arrived.  We got it together and completed the file of diagnostic results. I went to Mom's room to await the doctor.  It was not good.  Mom was told that her heart has slowed down to the point that her kidneys are not functioning properly.  She was told that the only medical intervention available would be dialysis.  The other choice is to simply "let nature take its course" until the heart stops.  That is the choice Mom made.  So, we will spend the next weeks, how ever many there are, in keeping her comfortable with oxygen, and morphine.  When it starts to be a pain problem that we cannot control, Hospice will be called into the facility to deal with controlling her pain.  So, sadly, I will watch Mom go.  I will also spend time praying with her and having other clergy calling upon her.  She needs to be at peace when she goes. In addition, we are just achieving the first month post-op of hubby's open heart surgery.  Things are simply crazy.  But I know from where comes my strength.
