thoughts

limping along on three brain cells.
I am SOOOooooOOOOoooo not ready to go back to school tomorrow.
Spring vacation wasn't really a vacation, it was time off of paid work.  I love my family, but they are work.  10 hour drive out, pleasant weather, wasn't too bad.  What I didn't know when I drove out last Monday was that Dad had fallen in the bathroom the day before.  When I saw him on Tuesday he had a big ugly goose-egg bruise on his head.
Apparently the effort he expended trying to get up off the floor really wiped him out.  He was very slow all week while I was there.  Little things were marathon efforts for him.
Mom has more or less resigned herself to the fact that Dad is never really going to regain his former vigor, that if something happens he probably won't be able to recover.  She is already mourning the loss of him.
She's also thinking a lot about what she will need to do if she survives him; she doesn't really like any of the options that she sees.
I'm completely at a loss to know how to comfort her, advise her, provide her with an acceptable alternative.
Got back yesterday, the drive back was harder because I was more tired (sleep deprived).  Glad to be home!
A massage business opportunity has come up - I'll be working with my personal trainer offering sports massage to his clients as part of a package deal.  Some details still to be determined.
Wish I had another day or two to put my self back together before going back to work, the gears are really grinding!

Dear at a loss Friend...yes, I\'ve been there too. It\'s so hard to know what to say or do for someone like your mom. I know for myself, it\'s kind of like you wish you had a magic wand and could somehow make their life what they\'d want. But then, I\'ve kinda discovered that they often don\'t have any clear notion of what they want, or that what they want is rather impractical or difficult to come by. Acceptable alternatives are scarce as dragons\' teeth.
It\'s tough when they start mourning a loss prematurely like that. I think they see it as good planning. But it\'s very hard to be around that sort of atmosphere. It\'s like living in a funeral home with mourners all about you even while your eat your morning corn flakes. I\'ve found it\'s next to impossible to alleviate that sort of mood so I\'m glad that you can return, get away from it, and back to a healthier mindset.
Really happy to hear about this massage op! Focus on that and it\'ll help you recharge yourself. I second Cheerio\'s hug!

Gee Brian, I really feel for you. Is your mom against assisted living? I realise you probably know all their options, just a thought. I\'m sure that really did wear you down, and you are right, it sounded as if it were no vacation at all. What are your thoughts on your dad? Do you see him as your mom does? What do you think is the solution to their problems, other than moving closer to you for one thing. Them being far away is both good and bad, at least from my POV. I\'d hate to see you trying to juggle everything and wear your sweet self down. You deserve a life too. What does G think of all this...?
The job opportunity sounds great and the package deal was a good idea. What a way to network!! You might have other opportunities opening up you never thought about. How exciting for you and it couldn\'t happen to a nicer guy. Congrats...you earned it!
Glad you\'re home and probably back into the swing of things now. Hang in there fuzzy wuzzy...LOL serious.

Thanks guys!

Update on Dad - he\'s averaging one fall a week. The last one bruised his jaw so badly that the Dr. put him on a liquid diet foe the next six weeks.

Assisted Living: they\'re against anything that requires fiancial disclosure. They aren\'t getting help in their own home for that very reason. Sigh.
