This time for sure, Rocky!
Hello Again,
They say the third time’s a charm, and we are hoping Sherri’s third return home will be the most charming of all. So far, so good.
After resolving some issues during her last hospital stay, Sherri is home again and this time we believe the move will be permanent. Though uncomfortable a good deal of the time, the fact remains she is healing quickly. According to her doctors she is “ahead of schedule.” Of course this is no surprise since Sherri cruises through most things pretty quickly. She actually got a speeding ticket in a Toyota Prius! You don’t often hear the words speeding and Prius in the same sentence.
But her recovery isn’t fast enough for Sherri. She is frustrated over not scaling the heights of Mt. Diablo already. Her body is at odds with her spirit. Though her energy is flagging her incredible spirit and drive remain undiminished, which is a tough place for Sherri to be. At times she feels like she was doing better after the first hospital release, but that’s simply the lack of drugs talking. Now Sherri is virtually narcotic free and still reports only “discomfort” most of the time. We need to keep in mind the dramatic improvement this represents.
We need to remember a number of things: Though she’s moving forward quickly, there is a very long path ahead. Though there are setbacks and perturbations along the way, the big things seem to be fine and are lining up nicely. Though she has months of recuperation ahead, it’s increasingly likely she has years available to her now, and this makes all the difference!
There are still a number of doctor visits and one or two procedures left to go, but Sherri is doing well on the whole. Though the progress is slow we truly believe it will remain steady from now on. The best sign she’s doing better now? Sherri is booking a vacation for next year. She is making plans for something far off in the future. This is a luxury we simply haven’t had before. Most couples consider where to go rather than if we’ll be alive to go there. It’s the little things that make all the difference. :)
We remain grateful for continued support. Your notes, thoughts and wishes definitely lift us when things seem a bit too much (which they sometimes do). And thank you all for supporting me in my self-care. Know that I am listening! In fact, I’m very pleased to tell you the Wood-man is back. “To Rome With Love” is Woody Allen’s latest film and it is fantastico. A fitting follow up to Midnight In Paris (also excellent). In these last two films Woody has re-established himself as himself. It seems all he really needed to do was get out of the USA. His work in Europe (though clearly recognizable as classic Woody) is refreshingly crisp. A delightful mixture of insight and insanity tempered with wisdom and experience. Though many prefer his earlier, funnier work I am very pleased to see fresh contributions to the genre he constitutes. I’m very glad to see that things like Hollywood Ending have ended.
The fact that I could see and enjoy (and review) his latest offering speaks to the progress I am making in terms of taking your sage advice by taking care of me. Sherri and I are both getting better, with a good deal more to come. Thank you for helping us get there.

It\'s wonderful that the surgery is behind you and that your recovery is continuing. 3 1/2 years ago - going back in my memory - it seemed it was always a steady improvement, although day to day it may not be obvious. You might journal weekly & document how you are and what you\'re feeling at the end of another week & bet you will see differences :-) I remember one day, I had no thought of cancer, surgery, lack of energy, restrictions, and it dawned on me at the end of the day....WOW, I had an old-time normal day - before cancer - woo hoo! And, it just kept getting better & better :-) I keep wishing you the best with a complete recovery! I\'m so glad you\'re back home! :-)
