This isn't going to change instantly

I have friend that thinks that I should just be able to stop!  To me that is like telling an alcoholic to just stop drinking or a drug addict. Things are not that easy. I was raised to put all other's needs before my own.Yes i should be able to put myself before others Yes I should be able to say no when someone needs money...The problem is I don't know how to just yet!!!!
