This is Me
Hey...so my name's Niamh. I don't care what my birth certificate says. I'm going with the one they gave me the day I was born which names me as Niamh. Here's a bit about me. So when I was born my Irish family named me Niamh which is said like Neve, but we live in America so no one could pronounce it. When I was three weeks old my parents changed my name to another Irish name that no one can pronounce. If you're going to say my name wrong, you might as well get it so wrong you never get it wrong again.
I was born into a strange family with a mother who constantly talks about how you need to accept yourself then goes on about how she needs to go on a diet, a father who's too busy creating his business that he's never had time for his children, an older brother who although is going to be a senior in high school still reads comic books, and a little sister who has the brain of an eight year old. I'm not kidding about my sister. She has down syndrome which makes me very sensitive to the R word so please don't say it.
The only person in my family I love is my little sister because I know that no matter how many times she screams, hits, spits, cries or blames me for the world I know she doesn't mean it and can't help it. My sister has an excuse, but the rest of my family doesn't. When I was little I had a good childhood. My parents loved me and came to everything at my school, but then my little sister had to apply to kindergarten. The school my brother and I went to wouldn't take her so my mom had to create a school for my sister. This took up all my parents time and by second grade I stopped telling them of my performances because I knew they were never going to come.
I went to an odd little school that is nothing like the rest of the schools in my town. I was considered rich by the other kids because I have two houses and my parents aren't divorced. I had to leave that school and when I went into freshman year I had to start all over again which triggered my depression and my eating disorder. Now I have no life, no friends, and I hate myself more than life.
At camp I was in a cabin with a cutter (Kegan), an ex-cutter (Stacey) and an active anorexic (Grace). (These are not their real names). Grace triggered my eating disorder again, Stacey made me envious how she got better, but Kegan did the worst. She found out about my ED and depression and threatened to tell everyone. She put so much pressure on me and talked so much about how her cutting was a release that I now have a deep scar on my arm where I took my scissors to my arm on my top bunk in the middle of the night. When Kegan noticed she replied, "I finally got you to cut! You like it!" I cried all night and almost died the next day when I was half asleep on my horse and fell off almost snapping my neck on the jump I hit my head on.
Now I'm going back to school where I have no friends, no life, 6 hours of homework, get bullied on a daily basis and my parnets have gotten so caught up in their work they've forgotten their own daughter tried to kill herself a few months ago...
That's my life. What's yours?
