This Bloody Economic Recession
the pesky nuissance that it is, has, sure enough, finally trickled down to my small (meager) photography and video business, which was barely making ends meet before, and is now falling short of that goal. I knew niceties (luxuries) like wedding photography would go by the wayside in the wake of more practical expenses like food and housing, but WTF?--didn't expect it to happen SO SOON! Looking for full-time work, but it appears to be a boneyard, a dustbowl...not many openings... Jeez, take away a loved one and a piece of one's heart is carved out...take away one's own ability to make a living and support one's self and one's heart is carved out in one big glob with a nubby spoon...oh, well, hopefully only temporary... Even Spielberg (my idol, genius movie director/producer) got hurt, because he had a good chunk of his money invested with Bernie Madeooff. Hope he didn't have all his dough tied up with that guy and had it spread around to various investments...that's what happens when the rich get greedy...Spielberg always said he lived in constant fear that someone would "take it all away"...Lucas is probably doing OK, because he's got a lot of his dough wrapped up in his own companies, Lucasfilm Ltd., Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Ranch and Lucasarts Entertainment, but I'm sure, despite the fact that, during trying times, more people go to the movies, his business is slow too. It's not a matter of what I want at this point--it's only a matter of WHAT THERE IS FOR ME TO DO. Well, now's the time to really appreciate the business I'm in as a sweet, artistic way to make a living. Make it about the art again instead of (or in addition to) about the money. Photography and video is the closest I've come to making a living doing SOMETHING artistic. Everything else has just been a hobby. Was jaded there for awhile...now I'm hungry again and delighted to get paid for taking pretty pictures. Oh, well--lookng for a job that, as Lawrence of Arabia says, "any man can do", while keeping the doors open for more photography/videography business, which is where I'm clearly talented and do well in. Dealing with this persistent muscle tension. Gotta relax. Hope y'all are well...
