Thinking about relocation, again...
I've been living in rural Maine for 3 years. I have no friends, no social life, and spend most of my time alone. Last week I went to the supermarket and saw a sign in the new dollar store taking applications for employment, so I filled one out and they called me back that night and asked me to come fill out new hire paperwork. I'm going tomorrow to do that. I'm hoping that working a job is going to be positive for me, but I'm on food stamps and public assistance, and part of this program that the state calles "Aspire", which has been monitoring my attempts to be self employed. The job I'm going to be doing is part time, pays minimum wage, and is probably only temporary, as the manager told me that they are hiring twice as many people as they need through the holidays and will probably be laying off shorty thereafter. I really think that getting out of the house is going to be really good for me. I'll get to actually speak to people, have a purpose, and set hours, all of which I do not have now. The "self employment" that I have been trying is really more of a desperate, stop gap to keep from going bankrupt more than a business. I've sold off almost everything I, my mother, and my uncle have of value. It is almost all gone now. I've tried to find sources of other stuff to sell, and even made a few things, like quilts, afghans, and stuff, but it is slow going. It isn't that it's not quality stuff, but that no matter how hard I work at it, I just don't have it right yet. I don't like my life here. After 3 years I still have not found anywhere to go to hang out. There is only one club in this tri-town area, and it is a country-western dance hall and that is just not to my taste. Problem is, I don't know what is to my taste. There isn't a job for me within 100 miles. I've been looking for 3 years, and there is just nothing. It was a big mistake to move here, because the craft shop I had envisioned is just not happening. I really don't have it in me to make it happen. I've been sitting here trying to decide (and unable to) whether it makes sense to go somewhere where there are jobs I can do, rent an apartment, and use this place as a 2nd home so that I can leave my brother here and try, once again, to actually start over. I moved here because I had the feeling that I needed to start over, and after 3 years, I still feel that I need to start over. as if I haven't done it yet. I'm not happy here, and neither is my girl.
