Things to discuss with neuro
I have had this cold now for a week. It waxes and wanes in its severity. I have felt like total crap and then will feel ok. Today is an ok day. Last year I had a cold and my right leg started to drag. At the time I also got a cold sore. I had to see the doc for a followup. This was just the gp doc, not a specialist. I think it was a followup to my hospital stay. He felt bad because he could not do anything for my leg and the cold of course. Docs were still baffled about what was causing my leg issues. He did give me valtrex for my cold sore because that at least he could treat. I took the one day dose of valtrex. The next day my leg stopped dragging and I felt a lot better. Then, after the valtrex wore off my leg started dragging again. I wondered if it was connected or just a coincidence. Fast forward to today. I have a cold, my right leg dragging and a cold sore. Called the doc and asked for some valtrex. I got a script and started taking it the night before last. It isn't the same dose as last time so I am supposed to take it every 12 hours. After the first dose, my leg is better. I took it again yesterday morning and night. I am skipping it now. My cold sore is dried out and healing. I am making myself a test subject. I asked my mother, an RN, and brother, a paramedic, if the HSV-1 virus could cause these issues that I am having. Since HSV-1 lives in the nerves it could be possible. There isn't much literature online. Most relates to Herpes encephalitis but the symptoms are similar. I don't have encephalitis but do have the arm and leg symptoms. It is rare for herpes to attack in this way but possible. The only way to find it is thru a lumbar puncture. The bottom line is anything is possible at this point. I am glad to have found a neuro who listens to me and is willing to test and find what it is that is causing my issues. He said the next step is a lumbar puncture...so I will ask him to look for not only MS but also this herpes virus. It may be developing into a menengitis or something. I feel very hopeful that maybe some suppressive therapy for the HSV-1 virus can be my cure. I just think it is too much of a coincidence that when I take the valtrex my symptoms remit.
I have a very busy evening planned. My daughter has choir practice until 5:30 pm and then she has gymnastics at 6:00 pm. Gonna be running around like crazy!

That is wonderful that you are starting to feel better. Kids will always keep you running. Mine does. Never a dull moment with them around. Good luck with your doctor appt. Have a good day.
