Things are beginning to happen, now we wait
Good morning journal, the time is 8:32am and I have been semi awake for around two hours, finally giving up on trying to sleep and getting out of bed to make coffee.Yesterday was quite a productive day in the sense that things are slowly beginning to move regarding my treatment and possible help financially and medically in the future. We received a couple of telephone calls, and we made some of our own,for instance,I got some advice on applying for PIP,the new personal independent payment scheme that replaced the old disabled living allowance benefit in April, from the citizens advice bureau. After following their advice and calling the number they gave me,I answered a few questions that a very nice young lady called Sasqa,(forgive my spelling Sasqa,I appear to have lost the piece of paper that I took your details on,nothing unusual there, but my apologies nonetheless). Anyway, after about fifteen minutes of questions, she informed me that I will receive the necessary paperwork within the next seven to ten days, this time,we have decided to get professional help to fill the said paperwork in as we apparently made somewhat of a dogs dinner of the last forms for DLA which resulted in our initial application and the subsequent appeal failing to impress the decision makers. We are in a much better position to succeed this time,my doctor has said he will write a letter of support personally, rather than the standard notes they supply to these types of agencies just copied from your medical file,he has said that his letter will give personal, and up to date, details of my current and ongoing condition, both physical and mental, and the treatment I am receiving to try to alleviate them.I need to be granted the higher,or advanced, award for mobility needs, this would enable me to get a mobility scooter on a three year contract. After three years,I can then trade my scooter for a new model of the same type or change it for another type completely, also in my three year contract,my insurance, road tax, servicing and all repairs are covered by the motability scheme, fender to fender,he says I need one to improve my quality of life, and, reluctantly, after becoming brutally honest with myself,I have to agree with his opinion. The scooters available are like a small battery operated golf cart,so there are no fuel costs except the odd charge of electricity you plug into at home, the better scooters can travel thirty five miles before needing to be recharged,so it would be ideal as a means for me to be able to get outside without dreading every trip as I become exhausted when walking any distance,we can only pray and hope that the decision makers will listen this time. The second telephone call we received was from a young lady called Hannah from the secondary mental health care team, she had a conversation with my wife as I wasn't feeling particularly strong enough at the time she called. The upshot of their conversation was that someone from the mental health team will come to our home to carry out an assessment on me within the next seven days, and, based on that assessment, they will then decide what treatment I need as regards my mental well being.Other calls we made were to our local council offices to make an application for discretionary help with our housing costs, electric, council tax etc:;the girl we spoke to,Sarah, was very helpful, and she has set the wheels in motion to see if we can be helped in anyway,so,as I said, yesterday was tiring but productive in the sense that we got things done.I also spoke on the telephone to another young lady called Stephanie who made an assessment appointment for me with her colleague Darren on August 12th with a view to me being enrolled in the next pulmonary rehab class which starts in September,it's twice a week for six weeks, twelve sessions in all, they will give me advice on correct breathing procedures, use of inhalers, and they will work out a personal exercise plan based on my abilities to manage whatever exercise methods are available,it's a ways away till my initial appointment, but hey,it's a start. At home,I have started to exercise with some light weights, not too much, just enough to get my arms and legs used to stretching themselves a little,it is tiring, but then I haven't done any exercise in over a year,so that is to be expected.Well journal, that's about all my news for now, once again we have hope in our home and in our hearts, there is a long way to go,please God we get the outcomes we need to move forward, and may His peace and love walk with us,and within us,in this day ahead.

Hurray, Scott! you are finally on your way, thanks be to God .
I am so glad your physical and mental treatment will be managed properly at long last.
You have really suffered, when it seemed there was no progress. But I have admired your strength and courage during all those difficult days.
I wish you good and healthy days ahead.
