They shoulda checked my references.

I started a new part-time job last Thursday, working in a tiny warehouse shipping department. I've never done anything like it, but the money was right so I applied. And for whatever reason, they hired me over 30 applicants. Little did they know....
My new job entails packing and shipping clothing items. For the first couple of days I just watched how it was done, then Monday did it myself and caught on pretty fast, having made just one easy-to-make paperwork mistake.
Today started out the same: Take the bin with the clothes, double check that the sizes are correct, verify the billing, put the paperwork in order, wrap the clothes in plastic, then a shipping envelope, then fold the shipping lable and adhere it to the envelope, tape it with the tape gun, weigh it, affix more lables and it's off.
Except today I got a paper cut.
And today I have a 3.4 INR.
So when the edge of the paper was making it's neat, deep slice into the index finger of my right hand, I immediately think "oh. shit."
At first I had only an opaque flap of skin and that exquisite paper-cut-pain to show for it. I thought maybe I'd lucked out. But who am I to think of luck?!
It took a few heartbeats to get the blood flowing to the wound, but flow it did. Copiously. So I, looking and sounding as nonchalant as I possibly can, say out loud "Well, looks like I've got a workman's comp case already!" and my supervisor, an older and very kind lady, went dead pale at the sight of my elevated, blood stained hand.
After assuring her it was only a paper cut, I told her I was a bleeder, and perhaps she should consider buying stock in Johnson & Johnson. Or at the very least, stock up on Band-Aids.
I had a flash of the future then, so crystal clear that I can tell you what's coming next and very soon - an ordeal with the jagged, razor sharp teeth of the tape gun.

Bless your heart! I had a couple \"exquisite\" paper-cut encounters when I was on coumadin too (doing very much the same job you are). Tape guns and I got along really well though. Maybe wear latex gloves?

Gloves are an excellent idea - and I have a boat load of samples in my office. Good thinking J!

Yeah, I bet she almost fell over when she heard \"workman\'s comp\" ! It\'s almost like swearing in church.

I\'ve nailed myself multiple times with a vegetable peeler, so yeah, anything with little teeth you gotta be mindful of. How is your DVT leg holding up with the standing?

I\'m sorry you had to get a pt job, Laura, but I\'m glad you were able to find something. It really is a jungle out there, whether you\'re looking for pt or ft jobs.

Well, my DVT leg is holding up great! And I don\'t mind getting out of the house and into the world a bit more - it\'s probably a better thing than I even know. Plus I still have some good dental customers, so who knows what tomorrow will bring?!

It never occurred to me to be afraid of the tape gun until it was too late. Um, see, the reason your package is covered with blood is ... ;-)

Glad your leg is holding up.

I just saw a news clip on a deer breeding facility nearby for rare species. Maybe you could get a job there bottle-feeding the new deer (I have no clue what the real term for baby deer is). Their little teeth and hooves can\'t be more dangerous than paper edges and tape guns. :)

Awwww, little fawns are the cutest. I\'d never be able to eat venison again.

Checking in to see how you are doing. Your finger did not get infected did it? How\'s the training going? You have a 5k coming up this or next weekend, right?
Do you feel ready? Hope all is well with you.

Thanks for the Hug last week. Keep up the workouts. Provided your pulse is the same on the tramp, as it is when you jog on the street ,you should be ok. Plus there should be less stress on your joints whe you use the tramp.
