They are going to put a lien on the house...

Once again, I had someone that does not know what the law is tell me that my mother is going to lose her house if she goes into a nursing home. The visiting nurse told me that the nursing home would put a lien on her house.
They have never mentioned putting a lien on her house, but putting her on Medicaid - and I have researched the laws involved, and it is against state and federal law for them to put a lien on her house while she is still alive, they would put a lien on her estate, but only if she is not survived by a child with a disability.
As I am disabled, and I am her child, they should not be putting a lien on her estate. As this is Rhode Island, they might, anyway, but it would only be for the amounts they had to pay for her care under Medicaid.
It is bad enough as it is, but to add this to what they are already putting us through is horrible. I cannot imagine that this is going to get any better - my mother does not have long, and if they cannot get rid of the infection she has, her days are numbered. She has come home twice, and ended up back in the hospital within days because of the infection. The nursing home refuses to treat the infection, after she finishes the initial dose of antibiotics, or even test to be sure that it is gone, so if she goes back into the nursing home, we are back to the cycle again.
How long this can go on, I don't know, but I really don't know how these people can sleep at night. Horrible people - without a conscience.
They really need to fix this system. While it is true that people should have to pay for services rendered, why the hell they should have to pay this much, or why services this necessary would not be "covered" and cost a person everything they own, should not be allowed.
Just like with the homeless situation, there could easily be a better way of handling this that would not involve the ruination of a person. But there does not seem to be any option that does not cost thousands of dollars more than any elderly person receiving social security gets per month.
I can picture in my mind several ways that they could set up a facility that would give the individuals the care they need without costing so terribly much, however, making it work would involve these narrow-minded, greedy people that seem to want to just take everything away from these poor, sick elderly people and their families.
