There Was A Knock
There was a knock on my side door Thanksgiving night. I wasn't expecting anybody and I was surprised when I answered and found one of my neighbors and her sister standing there. She said that they hadn't seen any cars stop by my house all day, so she had a Thanksgiving plate for me.. I told I had made dinner, but she insisted and I thanked her for the thought,,,and the plate. On the foil covered paper plate was turkey and dressing, potato salad and green bean casserole, all heaped high. She is my newest neighbor. She, her husband and daughter moved into the house across the street about six months ago. Foxy brought us together as her little girl saw her as I was bringing her back from her backyard chores. Foxy made some new friends that day,(big surprise) and we've made several trips across the street to talk. I really don't think they could afford to give me the plate. Her husband lost his job a few months before they moved into the rent house across the street and he had gotten a job a couple of months ago. But they had worried about me and made the trip across the street. I am truly blessed with good neighbors who care. My next door neighbor, Reuben, has given me Thanksgiving dinners, and things off his grill many times. My neighbors are another thing I'm thankful for.
