There's good news, and bad news.
First the good news; retrieval was on Monday. The actual process itself was fine. I woke up and actually felt really alert and really good. They were able to get 16 eggs out of all those follicles. I had to have Hespan in my IV though because of the OHSS I'm experiencing. That part apparently meant a huge needle into the top of my forearm--definitely the worst part of everything.
The even better news; 13 of our 16 eggs fertilized! To quote the nurse, "those numbers are fantastic." We were so happy and relieved to have so many. I am hopeful they all make it to Saturday so we can freeze them and have several more tries should this go unsuccessfully.
Now for the bad news! I am in a tremendous amount of pain today. I felt pretty bad yesterday but today is even worse. I have gained weight since Friday, my abdomen is huge all over (not just the lower part) and there is so much pressure it feels like I could explode. If they go forward with my Saturday transfer and the eggs implant, the nurse advises it will get worse before it gets better and I may need to be admitted for pain meds and to get this fluid drained off my abdomen. I am trying not to feel bad for myself but at the same time I am extremely frustrated and definitely having one of those "why in the hell can nothing go easy for me" moments. It doesn't help that today through Sunday is my hometown's big festival, and I've never missed it in my entire life. I'm supposed to attend several events tonight and I can barely walk, let alone drive myself 30 minutes there.
I am very frustrated with everything, and scared the OHSS is getting worse. I am so grateful though for so many embryos so I'm trying to focus on that and not how bad I feel. I remain optimistic; God is great!
