Therapy Goal III

Was it a magical weekend? My bipolar therapy is on the lookout for "Manic Euphoria," but. . . I remain faithful that magic (by whatever name) really does happen. Proof irrelevant. My bipolar therapy has given me a still weak confidence that I have some hope of being able to sort a psychotic break from psychotic healing. That still weak confidence weakens each time I get near the debate of whether any of the manic depression/bipolar therapy is valid for PTSD. Does I really have to start over for the newest latest greatest? Can I hold on to at least a little bit of faith in the healing I *feel* like I have acquired under out-dated names and theories?

Whatever the psychopations attached, Hubs, GS and I had a most enjoyable weekend. Even in handling the adult *donwannas* like reviewing taxes, litigations from YS's last accident in Tiggy, the pending changes from Hubs's new job, the psychopations I have been sorting in this journal series, etcetera, etceteri, the weekend was filled with love and laughter.

Healing Magic or Manic Euphoria? Another theory set altogether? Sorting. . .

I’ll vote for “Healing Magic” as any good is often a miracle when having a DSM-V worthy list of symptoms, diagnoses, etc..., or at least it’s how I feel about all my issues I’m still waiting for help to sort out.

Very glad you had such a positive & good weekend. You definitely deserved it and personally I think you’re own a lot more, and interest.

I find dual diagnoses confusing at time even after working for a psychiatrist, especially related to PTSD, Bipolar & Borderline Personality. As with all mental illnesses, disorders, etc..., there are so many overlapping symptoms. Borderline got me researching dual diagnoses, and I’ve finally located my DSM-IV & MPR Psychiatric Editions & my Psychological/Psychiatric Clinicians Guide book my old boss gave me to as aid to transcribing session notes & formal summaries based on them. Wow! What a relief and help having access to them again has been this past week.

On ward to point though, both Bipolar & Borderline are common dual illnesses with PTSD but as of yet I haven’t read of any issues between the Bipolar therapies & medication treatments but it is very common to have both PTSD & Bipolar. Generally it was implied that they play off of each other and amplify symptoms in both. As prior to finding I have always had ADHD inattentive type, my longest primary diagnoses was PTSD, Bipolar, & GAD with occasional seasonal depression, I spend a lot of time researching it. I was unresponsive or had adverse reaction to Bipolar med but therapy tho. Nothing worked. But discovery or rather rediscovery of ADHD & dyslexia (because I recently found out they knew when I was a kid but didn’t do anything about it) changed everything. My the symptoms of Bipolar completely disappeared once I started managing ADHD correctly. I’ll still always have GAD, Panic attacks, and depression challenges with my PTSD to understand but having the right diagnosis as well as right treatment completely changed my life for better. (Oddly just read recent study on ADHD patients with PTSD & they found that results show ADHD medications - specifically Concerta mentioned - actually helped patients suffering with severe chronic &/or complex PTSD, decreasing severity of symptoms and helping manage them).

It would be helpful likely to both of us if the professionals in charge of Psychology & Psychiatric practices, definitions, terms, would update, and clear up all the cross over, outdated info, misused terms & settle for clear and concise distinctions and explanations of illnesses, symptoms and dual diagnoses. I still get dizzy from it, and I have the actual psychiatry guidebooks, lol.

Best wishes Arfie & big hugs!

My response to the PTSD therapy was sufficient to make the VA shrinks I was working with at the time to believe the MD/BP were straight up misdiagnosis. They were game to make the misdiagnosis official, but they were also respectful of the progress I had made using the MD/BP therapy tools and my reluctance to invalidate that progress with a declaration of misdiagnosis.

How is it possible that that was nearly 20 years ago? Translating the old vocabulary to the vocabulary which has developed in those decades is getting increasingly difficult, especially at the peer support level.

Mindfully leaving that body of confusion on the back burner for now, I have a gnarly herstory of what I am still calling, "Manic Euphoria." Whether ^it^ fits the newest theories or not, ^it^ remains an item on my list of psycho nag flags. ^It^ has been a dominant feature in nearly all of my psychotic breaks.

Healing magic or manic euphoria? I believe in the placebo effect, therefore I appreciate poetics of a rose is a rose is a rose...

What ever the name run with it, if it gives you a weekend with love and laughter~

Thank you, Dreamer.

I.F. ^it^ is healing magic, ^it^ will still be here after I sober up. Healing is a patient magic.

I’m also finding the continuous revamping & renaming of things is psych field dizzying and confusing, and I have been fairly consistent in therapy for many years. Still until this year was I thoroughly introduced to Borderline and the full depths of PTSD. But the terminology..., I swear 50 % of terms on DS I end up having to look up. I’m now very glad I have my psych books handy again. But it’s taking a lot of work to find what it now & trace it back to what it was called when I was more in tune with psychology.

Sigh. I’m just easily confused I guess, lol. Still cheering for Healing Magic, though.
