The wisdom of a grandfather,a story for today

Good morning journal, the time is 7:31am,I am awake and rested after twelve hours of sleep.I awakened only briefly once or twice during the night, but fell asleep very easily afterwards.Yesterday,I achieved virtually everything that I set out to do,mainly remaining in full control of my actions and my thoughts, which pleased me enormously. So much so in fact, that my wife actually thanked me for my efforts, that made me feel slightly sad in a way,a wife shouldn't have to thank her husband for behaving in a normal, decent and civilized manner. When I said as much to her,she replied that she could see the effort I had made, and knew how hard I had fought to remain calm and in control, and as a result of my efforts, she too had been able to enjoy a calmness in her day.The voices in my mind were still evident, but I managed to disregard them completely at times, and at other times,I remained in full control over them. This morning,my mind is my own again,my thoughts are mine alone, and my voices are silent and asleep for now.I was very tired for most of yesterday, and I took my night medication and retired to bed at around 6:30pm last night, that may seem a little early, but I needed to rest and I didn't fight it,as it happens,I made the right choice to go to bed,and the day ended on a good memory for both my wife and myself.Speaking of choices,it reminds me of the story of a Native American grandfather talking to his granddaughter one early morning. He told her of the two warring dogs in his soul;one dog was calm, good and friendly, wishing to please and help his owner;the other dog was angry and snarling, was disobedient, and had only hatred in his heart.Every day,the two dogs would fight each other at first light;the little girl listened as her grandfather finished his story, then she asked,"which dog wins grandfather?";her grandfather looked at her and smiled,"the one that I feed",he said.Yesterday, I fed the right dog,and as a result had a pleasant day, today,I plan to feed the same dog and let the other one go hungry;choices you see,are there for all of us at the beginning of every day, they remain available throughout the day,and the choices we make determine the outcome of any given situation in that twenty four hour period;if we feed the right dog,it usually works out okay. When God created each of us,He gave us a conscience, the ability to know the difference between right and wrong,He doesn't want slavish, zombie like devotion, what would be the point in that?. He rejoices much more when we choose to turn to Him,THAT is why He waits until WE are ready, time means nothing to Him,and we have the lifetime He gave us to get to know the joy of His love for us.This morning,I know that love, hopefully today,I can walk in His footsteps again, till next time journal, peace go with us.

Scott that is a wonderful story, and I have heard it a lot recently. It is one that really slows one down to think of the implications. I am so glad when you have positive days, and while my knows what you mean about your wife\'s comments, it is equally important that you realize that she does pay attention and does realize when you are working it for the betterment of both of you. -- Take care, Bill
