The Whistleblower
Last night I went with a friend to see a movie that is part of the Miami International Film Festival in Miami Beach. Name of the movie, based on a true event: "The Whistleblower."
"The Whistleblower" blew my mind. The movie is about human trafficking. Young girls that are ripped from their home, their countries, and placed with false passports in war zones as sex slaves. So many stories, so much desperation from either side. The girls. Their families. Their very short lives. The agony of those who want to do right and remove them from their current condition and the mafia, so strong with corruption and moved towards the very high levels of the political world. Everyone takes a bite.
Yesterday's story is about the discovery of a UN representative in Bosnia, who shared immunity in all levels, including crimes, with those who were criminals. The innocence of an honest mind finding herself in the middle of the worst "clean" environment, where officials are sent from all over the world to protect the people from that location.
The place, as we know it, is a land of history, a face with no name, far from a tourist zone where brutality embraces young and old, woman or man, in unbelievable distorted ways. In America one can go to jail if there is proof of such behavior. Out the door, apparently it could be free for all. Land with no law. Shocking is that we all have children. Sons and daughters, who we raise with love in most homes, we dedicate our lives to them, and around the corner is Satan with a needle, a bottle of alcohol, loud nonsense music screaming curses and teaching our kids to dance to this garbage. To buy this garbage. To become this garbage.
While we groom our children to love, to become decent human beings and contribute to society in a positive manner, to be part of good, and push away the destructive options, their marketing is a lot stronger. Everywhere you look you read "sexy", the role models that were once a Disney little singer is now a semi-naked disturbing drug and alcohol addict, with children of 2nd, 3rd, 4th marriages that were all broken, who will grow up without every knowing from home what respect, self worth and values really are.
How do you teach a child that all around the world the current "in" is really "out"? How do you show that have sex is completely different from making love? That there is a need for maturity for each action and step we take while growing up?
