The Victory Lap

Today I went down to the hospital for my final meeting with the doc.  Well, "final" until next time (I am supposed to go for yearly checkups).  Anyhow, my little support team was all there.  KP my coach.  GB the only chick in the world who can prick my veins right every time.  Even EV the super-intense admin person.  And they were all so pleased to be getting rid of me.   If the hospital has a "no hugging the staff" policy, we're all in deep trouble. So finally it came down to me and the man having our final debrief.  I know I've referred to him as the witch-doctor in many posts and I may have dumped on him from time to time... but now all is forgiven.  He was smiling from ear to ear as he explained that everything had worked.  That my liver would gradually heal.  And that I should get on with my life.  And then he said the most amazing thing: "You know I do a lot of one-on-one consultations and most of the time the news is not so good.  It means so much to me to be able to tell people they are cured.  Sometimes I think I'm as happy as they are!"  OMG.  He has a heart!  And a big one at that!
