I have a bad habit of writing journals and not finishing them. This is one which I wrote over two years ago.  I thought I would share it today during this dificult time with the pandemic and so much fear, hate and distrust going on everywhere.....This is just as an example of what we can learn from our animals......

I had to take my dog to the vet a few days ago because she hadn't been feeling good.  She is doing much better now and is on the rebound. 

The place where I take her is a small, country veteranary hospital which has a huge practice.  The office is always full of barking dogs, or whining dogs, or cats, waiting to be seen.  The people  in the waiting room,  don't speak usualy and always have their animals in a cage or on a tight leash so as not to get close to the dog next to them.  It's probably due to fear that the next guys dog might be ugly, or afraid and could possibly attack.

So when I went inside and found a seat, I did what everyone else did and kept my dog as close to me as I could but my dog was restless, I could tell, and she wanted to go make some friends.  Finally my name got called and we went in to see the vet.  They put me in a small exam room  and I had to wait awhile before the vet walked through the door.  He gave me some good news after doing some blood tests and told me she was good to go.  

The office has two widows, one in the waiting room for checking in, and one on the opposite side, where we check out and pay the bill.  I had my dog by the leash but needed that hand to hold the credit card bill so I could sign it. I let go of the leash, thinking she would just stay by my feet, and boy.....what a mistake that was!  I handed the paper back to the office girl and immediately noticed my dog was missing!  I thought "Oh My God! where did she disappear to!"  I checked the exam room we were just in.....I check the hallway leading to the exam room and no sign of her anywhere!  I was feeling very panicy at that point.  Then I checked the waiting room where all the other dogs and cats were and then I spotted her!.....I stood in awe by the door and just watched!  She was kissing all the dogs and their owners and getting lots of petting and attention in return..... It was a miraculous moment.  She had made about a dozen new friends that day and opened some hearts, in the few minutes she was free and on her own!   Everyone hated to see her leave.    After observing for a few minutes, I took her leash, and said goodbye to everyone and left feeling proud of my dog for all the love I had just seen exchanged between her and a room full of strangers, and their dogs, some of which were much larger then she was!  

It is said that God gave us dogs, to teach us unconditional love.  That's what I had witnessed.  There were no mean or fearful people, or dogs, like there was when I arrived earlier!  

When I got home and got settled, I sat down and did a meditation.  I have been doing it for a long time and sometimes I see things when I meditate.  On this day, I was shown something I had never seen before.  It was two halves of a heart that were glued together by a beam of light and this beam of light went straight up, through the clouds, to Heaven!  I knew what it meant and at the end of the day, I said a prayer of thanks for the gifts I had received that day!
