The Tense Situation, or How I Worried About Nothing
It was a stressful week.....a sopoena server came in to me at work and tried to serve me with a sopoena for a $20,000 debt...it wasn't for me, it was someone with a similar name. I had to show my driver's license....they realized I wasn't the one they were after.....what a rush of adrenaline, pounding heart.....then the next day, another sopoena server called and talked to one of my employees and said they needed to come and drop off a sopoena...the employee didn't take down any information, so I thought it was the same thing, and wanted to head it off by calling and straightening it out....but couldn't, so just fretted over it......I was angry with the employee for not getting information from the caller......Finally, the sopoena was served, and I found out this was a different sopoena, just wanting copies of some of our records for someone wanting to sue someone else.......(sigh of relief)........I'm so glad I didn't gamble over this waiting and stressing, while I was wondering about being sopoenaed, thinking someone was trying to sue ME.......I have to understand life is full of all kinds of stresses, sorrows, difficulties.....and it will ever be.......I have the choice now to learn how not to be overwhelmed, not to hide in behaviors that do nothing but cause more damage.....not to gamble. I have the choice now in choosing healthier self-talk, healthier stress-relieving behaviors, and choosing strength instead of weakness.......this is my choice now. I choose Life over Death, I choose Peace over Anxiety, I choose Hope over Despair. I choose Community over Isolation... For today, I will not gamble. Tomorrow will be 90 days.....and I will celebrate that....thanks to all my friends here who have so generously given and shared their strength and support....Love to everyone here.....

Congratulations on 90 days of GF. I hope that I will get there some day. You wrote that friends here have given you strength and support but you know, you have done the same for me. Thank you, TJO

90 days oh my goodness! We will have to have a party!! I am so happy for you! What a stressful couple of days. My heart would be pounding too - but you know what? YOu have no reason to be prohibitive- this is in the past. You are now free of all those feelings and self loathing - you are a new person in recovery. Have a wonderful day - hugs Suzi
Enjoy your 90 day celebration! Treat yourself to something! You deserve it...I\'m so darn proud of you! Love ya!
90 days! That\'s wonderful, Dianne :)
Hi Dianne,
Good job on avoiding the (((stresses))), I guess this recovery is not only about NOT GAMBLING, but about how we handle daily stress. I like what you said, \"I have a choice not to be overwhelmed\"...
I remember (before I confessed by addiction to my hubby), that I would freeze everytime the phone rang! I was afraid it was one of the credit card companies calling about the large cash advances I was taking out! The anxiety was overwhelming!
Take care and stay strong!
Congrats on your 91 days GF (it\'s Tues now)...Good Job!!!
Hugs,
Liz
